Usually when you get sick on immune suppressors it's because your WBC drops, your body is unable to fight off infections. With frequent blood testing your doctor should be able to counteract this by either lowering a dose or discontinuing a med.
I'm on both 6mp and Remicade and I rarely get sick. Perhaps my immune system is now controlled or "normal" because before starting these meds, I was sick constantly.
Does your doctor do frequent blood testing?
But to go immediately to every 8 weeks for the Remicade seems a bit strange. Most GI's like to build up the med in the system so by the time the every 8 weeks start, it's more of a maintenance.
I don't know if Remi actually lowers the immune system tho. I know it's a TNF blocker, which means that it lowers the inflammation body wide.
I get my blood and stool tested every time I am feeling symptomatic which has been often in the past 1-2 years. I have also had numerous bouts with CDiff which muddy's the waters a bit. I plan on calling my GI monday to talk about
this with him.
I have also read about
Remi + 6MP meds? Does anyone know about
this? Is it something I should bring up to my GI and consider?
