Cortisone enemas and blood

I didn't call my GI yet. What I want to try first now is taking 2 enemas per day. One in the morning and the other one at night. I will switch between Rowasa and Colocort. If it doesn't get better though, I'll make sure I'll call.

Little update though not written in stone yet: Yesterday I had less blood. It wasn't dripping out just like that anymore. Today I had a bm with streaks of blood but a lot less then the last couple of days.

I have changed to 2 enemas per day. I'm sleeping 2 times a day for 4 hours each since I'm doing night shift now and I cannot sleep 8 hours through. I wish :/ Anyways, I make the best out of it. So in the morning I take the Colocort and in the evening Rowasa. So far so good.

I also cut back on certain foods. As you know I'm on SCD. But I quit diary, nuts and honey. With fruit I have to be careful as well. I will cook and puree veggies again.

Nevermind about the feeling better - it is not better.

I see a pattern. Over the day I see little blood. Before bed around 8-9 pm I see LOTS of blood with mucus. Most of the time without any stools.

I do the enemas around 12 pm and 9 pm (rowasa and colocort). I'm also taking Apriso 1,5mg.

I don't know what to do anymore. Why is the bleeding so bad especially in the evening? I want it to stop cry

Also, I started cortisone enemas at 8/28/2012. Is that too long? Should I taper them off anyways?

What about calling the doc and asking him to up the Apriso to 2.4g?

You aren't the only one wondering about this one too.

Daughter started Remicade, 1st dosage yesterday at noon. Have been doing steroid enemas before bed too (11 days) . Less frequent trips to bathroom. Blood has not decreased much. Hard to convince her the uncomfortability of the steroid enema is worth it. I'm now wondering too about hemorrhoids. Thanks for the suggestion!

I hope Remicade works for your daughter. It has worked for me within 2 days. I sat on the toilet crying because of happiness. Stay positive.

I dont want to jinx myself but I was in the same boat you are, had a scope in may and my rectum/procitis was bad.  i have UC.  Anyways I have been on cortifoam since may and just constantly bleeding and worse by night myself, i have done rowasa, canasa, upping my asacol no improvement.  just started fish oil, vitamin, vitamin d, and today was the first day that I haven seen blood since May.  Tapering cortifoam to every third day just to get off it.  It has been improving over the last few days. It has been 2 years, but the last 4 months have been really bad.  I still have urgency, but not as bad.  I think its the fish oil.

Yes, upping the Apriso could very well help. Worth a try at this point, in conjunction woth the enemas.

hello,

okay, so I wanted to get some fellow patients' opinions on when to taper off of prednisone.  My head is never clear when I flare because I want to get off of it fast and can set myself up for rebound.  So, I've tapered from 40mg to 30mg.  I wasn't seeing any blood for a day before I tapered down but was still seeing mucuous.  I've been on the 30mg for 2 days and saw more mucuous in stool as a scant amount of blood.  Should I have waited to taper until ALL s/s went away (including all mucuous).  I hate prednisone but need to taper appropriately...

what are your thought?

Andrina..................same. cry switched to cortfoam, expensive stuff, but I've seen 'some' poo peices vs the cortenema no improvment. Still 10xa day. No blood now. Urgency is running ...literally my life . Maybe tomorrow will be a better day. I've confined myself to a book ,bedand tv. Depressed............

I suspect the inflammation sitting higher than the enema can reach. That's why I do a combo with oral meds but it's not helping much. Technically I need to take oral pred but I refuse.
