Prednisolone and moon face

For me when I was on prednesone it took me almost a month before I started to return to normal. If your face starts to feel tight and sore be sure to tell your doctor. I was on prednesone for at least 3 months before I started to taper down. I was puffy everywhere. Good luck I hope you feel better soon!

I was on Prednisone for several months (became dependant) - I was lucky in a way that the moodface took a long time to rear it's ugly head, it was very gradual. Once off it did also decrease very gradually, I'd say a few months in each direction. - I know at the time it was puffy , but since it was gradual I didnt notice so much, but looking back at pictures from that summer... I think wow, I don't look like myself at all!

Heya moon face sucks,
I had a terrible moon face last year during my first flare after being on IV hydrocortisone steroids 100ml for 6 weeks and then went on 40mg prednisolone tapering down 5mg a week until I reached 0. My moon face was MASSIVE while I was in hospital receiving the IV steroids and appeared pretty quickly as I was on such a high dose, maybe after a week or so. I read that salt intake could help, so I stuck to a very strict no salt, no fibre diet- mainly lived off white rice and plain chicken (wasn't fun, but it made me feel a little less helpless!). I also drank lots and lots of water and gymed an awful lot to stop any weight gain from the pred munchies.

I noticed that as the pred was reduced the moon face did come down. By 20mg it was much much better! And by 5-0mg it was mostly back to normal. Maybe a month after until I could fully see cheekbones and jawline defined again! I know at the moment you feel like it won't go and its so awful having this disease AND walking around with chipmunk cheeks, however I promise it will go. I didn't believe it, my face was unrecognizable, now I can look back at photos and its amazing to see improvement.

I found it very helpful taking a photo of my face everyday so I could see it getting worse BUT also as the dose is reduced see it improve. It's good to have the reference.

Just be strong! I'm in my second flare now, which is hard to accept. I have been on prednisolone 40-30-40mg for coming up to 4 weeks now, I know moon face will catchup with me but considering there is nothing I can do at the moment I will not stress, I just need to get my bowel healthy.

Just think that everyone who knows you, supports you and cares. Those who don't know you won't notice the moon face and don't matter. This is only temporary and will get better!
