I'm down with a cold right now. Stuffy nose, body ache, tired, headache. Also my symptoms got worse to the point I have diarrhea, mucus and urgency again. Is it connected?

Yes, definetly. UC is an autoimmune disease where our immune systems are running amuk. One of the major ways doctors treat us is to weaken our immune systems. When we get a cold or virus or infection our immune system gets more fired up all over again, which in turn fires up our autoimmune disease.

Pretty common. Be sure to get a flu shot, because the flu will really set you back.

I'm just the opposite. When I get sick, my immune system has something else to concentrate on and leaves my poor ole colon alone for a change.
I hope you feel better....the sickies are going around that's for sure. Pamper yourself, sip on some chicken noodle soup and rest.

This is good to know, I got a head cold last week, and have just been feeling out of sorts since. Feeling a lot of cramping, and just overall return of some symptoms. Glad to see that this is somewhat common.

I would agree that when I get colds or fevers, my bowels start acting up a bit. Hearty soup recipes and this cold remedy has really served me well:
2 Bags Steeped Green Tea
Dash of Apple Cider Vinegar
Squirt of Lemon Juice
Miniscule pinch of Cayenne pepper
Squirt of Honey
Mix and drink. :) All of these things help ward off bad bacteria

I am like Red in that my UC/proctitis does the opposite. Right now I am feeling crummy with a head cold and my BMs have gotten more formed with less urgency! Weird but I like that part of things!
