chiropractor cured/healed Colitis or Crohn's - possible?

beachlife...since 2009...I'd say you know how to post here AND have gotten to know who bullcraps and who doesn't.


It's disconcerting that, while you're in a profession of TEACHING balance, you're beliefs and body are way out of sync. You're not talking in realities, and actually you're in a heightened state of denial. While it seems some may be cured of some illnesses....there's a wide margin of misdiagnosis etc. you choose to put the blinders on and blatently disrespect the obvious struggles and disease others here suffer.

So, in reality....I won't be cured. I take my meds and struggle to function with some form of balance. I do the research and ask the questions and try to exsist in the world of today.

While I was born with all the right body parts, I was certainly flawed from the moment of conception. Hence my decision to not have children and pass it on.

It seems there are many people who think the way that you do....I wish you well and wait for your continued reports.

I have been seeing both a chiropractor/naturopath and an accupuncturist regularly for over a year now. I have also been seriously working on my food choices to find what works best for me. No perscription meds, but I have taken a wacky assortment of herbal things. Some combination of all of this seems to have worked, however. I can't tell you WHICH thing did it, or if it was a combination of everything together. I went into remission (no blood, no D, no urgency, not even any random gas) for over a year. (FWIW, blood came back about a month ago, I'm working on some tweaking to see if it will go away again. Before this current flare, just blood, no other symptoms, it had been about a year and 2 or 3 months with no symptoms.)
So there ya go.

Here's a quick summary of what I have experienced:

My GI offers to write me perscriptions.

The chiropractor talks about adjusting my body for optimal performance and how this organ is connected to that bone, etc etc. Pretty interesting view on things.

The Chinese medicine doctor is more concerned with my diet and the things that might trigger any sort of inflammation response. Then of course there's my whole internal connection and various pathways that might be helped by accupuncture.

GAPS and SCD and Fecal Transplants are all about the balance of good and bad bacteria.

Gosh, isn't this all fascinating?!?

zucchini - It IS fascinating, isn't it!? great combination your chiro is also your naturopath. No blood, D, urgency or random gas - YOU ARE MY HERO! Congrats on results from all the hard work you've put in. Sounds like meds never, ever, worked for you? Is it the L1 that he keeps in place, connected to Colon? I also tried herbal teas with a TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor, but didn't really see measurable results - then again a friend is off meds and healed from the herbal teas from the same Doctor - he's even drinking wine now). What dietary advice are you following from Weston Price?

congrats again - you're living proof healing is possible. I'm excited for you.

Ok, so I AM a Chiropractor. We can help with alot of different problems. Our specialty is in musculoskeletal realm. Would I ever "spend a dime" on a regular doctor for a musculoskeletal problem? No. I sit down and have lunches with these guys and they don't want to see people with musculoskeletal issues because they can only give you pain meds. Are there good GP's and bad ones? Yes. Are there good gastro docs and bad ones? Yes. Are there good Chiros and bad ones? Yes. Do I discredit a whole field because I run across a bad one? No.

Now, is there ever a time when clearing up a musculoskeletal complaint that another issue is helped..... Yes. Happens alot. Have I ever told someone that would happen? No. Should ANY doctor ever tell you he would "cure" you? No. Healing takes place from inside out. A good Chiropractor will never tell you he/she is going to cure anything.

Can an adjustment help with all the rest of the crap that runs our body down from the stress that comes with UC. Absolutely. It's just another way to stay mobile.

There's a chiropracter in MI that I saw because he claimed he could cure just about anything and he even said the attorney general calls him for help and curing other people.

He makes you watch a video tape of people testifying how he's got them to be able to walk and so forth.

 I spent a ton of money on Standard Process supplements and 6 hour drive every month and he was stumped why he couldn't cure me. So he dreaded seeing me each month when I said I was no better. I'm sure he was glad I quit coming to him.

It wasn't until two years later I found out I had chronic lyme's disease in addition to ulcerative colitis.

He was weird! He would come in and see you and say....let me think about what it might be and he would go into another room and help some else. He would fly back in like fricken Kramer from Seinfeld, it was nuts!

Just thought I would share my story.

Dr-A: You bring a good perspective. I'm assuming that since you have over 1600 posts that you either have UC or have had it. I hope you don't feel like I have been discrediting the whole chiropractic field from my posts as I have repeatedly said that there is a place for chiropractors. Unfortunately, they don't have a very good reputation (kind of like lawyers) and there seem to be a lot (although probably a small overall percentage) who claim they can cure anything from A to Z. I do have a few questions, since you offered.

1. Can you give us a brief update on your current and past UC condition including successes and failures?

2. What do you think of a Chiropractor who actually has brochures explaining how he can heal UC or other diseases outside the normal scope of what a normal chiropractor would do?

3. You seemed to indicate that things you can do may possibly help those with UC to some degree but do you think seeing a chiropractor can actually heal or cure UC?

4. Is there any specific advice or thoughts you would give to beachlife?

I *wish* that something as pleasant as having someone crack your back could benefit colitis. But I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

The only thing it might indirectly help with is reducing your stress level, which might indirectly help with your colitis.

I don't regularly visit chiropractors and reluctantly credit them with temporarily resolving my UC this one time.

In fairness they never promised to cure anything but my UC was resolved as a good 'side-effect'.

I was involved in an accident and went to a chiropractor to get my sore back fixed.

During one of the sessions I definitely felt something click back into place in my mid/lower spine.

My UC resolved for as long as I kept a good posture.

One day I felt something click out of place and hey presto my UC was soon flaring.

Similar thing happened to a friend of mine, who had ibs that resolved after after a visit to chiropractor.

@rikkidan - I know what you mean about reluctant. I'm feeling amazing this week, my body didn't "crave" the Lialda like it has in the past, 3 times to the chiro this week. And for the last 2 visits, the Colon area/L1 I think, is staying in place. Headed dancing this weekend with different shoes so we'll see what happens

my yoga mentor sees the same, related to posture, I mean it goes deeper than that, but he sees the internal disturbances due to how I carry myself, walk, posture.

What did you do when you felt the click out of place, did you go back, or to time constraining?
