Please help! Imuran my lipase last week 79 now 856!

I'm sorry to hear this :( I can't give you any advice or whatnot because this has never happened to me but that stinks that you had to stop the Imuran.

holy crap, that's scary high. good you're off the imuran.

Will you be seeing your doc asap?...or if you're in extreme distress to go to the ER?

Hi all and Hi Hailey's letter :)

My doc is on vacation and doesn't know but I stopped it anyways.It's sad that no one from her office has called me to tell me to stop it, no one looks at the reports but her. If I did continue I would be in ER and one night I thought of going but toughed it out, but it was hard. I couldn't walk for a few days because standing or moving was so bad. It felt like I had been throwing up all night or been kicked a million times in my gut but neither had happened.

I missed three days of work and now I'm back. I can actually think, walk and talk today something I haven't been able to do since last Friday!

I did however go see my fissure doctor yesterday and he said it's looking really good, healing up nicely so that made me very happy.

I'm going to go back to my nightly enemas for now. I haven't been able to stick anything up there since the surgery. Thanks all for you support and kind words! I feel we are a great cyber family :) Hugs!

So since my doc is out, I called and ask them to look at my results since my lipase was so high and they said they would call me back. Well they just called, immediatley they said stop the imuran, if I feel really bad go to the emergency, lots of liquid less food they said. Little do they know I stopped it two days ago because I read my own tests results. I actually work with life extension company which I'm a member of and I can talk to a doc there and go over my results, they are great! I'm not selling you anything just telling you what other avenues I use.

So I didn't even tell her I stopped two days ago because I figured they should of looked at it two days ago when I faxed it over!

She was trying to be calm in telling me but I could sense her urgency for me to stop it. Doctos/nurses/customer service amaze me, the lack of of support I mean. You have to be your own advocate in your health I tell ya! I don't even want to "WHAT IF"  this situation, it's scary!

Afraid it is the imuran.

Elevated lipase is a typical indicator of an inflammed pancreas.
Although the patient is usually so deathly sick that a blood test merely confirms the source of the problem.

its a simple formula -> symptoms eventually lead to the problem.

I've been through this while on 100mg imuran.
After 2 months my poor pancreas couldn't handle it anymore.

Doc said to come off it for 2 weeks then re-challenge with 50mg imuran.
After 7 days pancreas was inflammed.

Stopped imuran altogether for about 12 weeks.
Prednisolone and mesalazine are keeping flare in check.

Now on 50mg 6MP (mercaptopurine) for the last two weeks.
Pancreas ok so far.
Really hope 6MP works as I believe the imuran was holding me in remission.

Imuran is metabolized to 6MP by the body.

There are some by-products of this biological process that seem to aggravate the pancreas.

about 60% of those with imuran intolerance seem to fare better on 6MP.

Its important not to drink milk products for 2 hours either side of taking Imuran or 6MP as it interferes with uptake of the drug.

Hi My lipase is coming down its now 554 not 859, but this is still high. I've been off Imuran now a 6 days. WBC is coming down too at 12.70 high is 11.0 I was at 15.5

I have a GI appt on Monday. I have stool tests waiting in the wings, so I'm getting to the bottom of this diareeah thing! Yeah
