Can't eat

Just the thought of food makes me nauseous. I've probably had a total of 500 calories the past two days. I try to force myself but can usually only tolerate a few bites. As soon as I begin chewing, the pain starts. Yesterday, I tried to drink an ensure and it went OK, only to begin feeling nauseous a few hours later with the taste of the drink hovering in the back of my throat. I've already lost nearly ten pounds.

This part of the flare is always the most frightening for me and just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

This would happen to me during my bad flares. You have to be careful because you will end up getting dehydrated. I know it's tough but you have to drink as much as you can and try to eat. Try some crackers or rice. Toast or a bagel with a scrambled egg would work for me too. There were many times I ended up in the hospital because of the nausea and vomiting. They would put me on bowel rest with clear liquids only and it actually would help. Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear how lousy your are feeling.

Ensure is pure crap, loaded with high fructose corn syrup.

Bowel rest would probably help calm things down if you can do it for a few days, and then you'll be able to slowly add things back in your diet.

When I did bowel rest for a few days, I would have 4-6 protein shakes a day ( good quality ones made with almond milk + high quality whey protein), can you do that?

Can you ask your doctor for some script Zofran? Might help.

I have a prescription for phenergan which helps with the nausea, and I called my PCP asking for some pain medication - no word yet.
The pain was so great last night that it actually caused vomiting. Things are definitely very tough right now. I am hoping for a change to the better soon.

Sounds like the extreme nausea I had in 2010, I would end up laying on the floor for the first 2 hours of the day.

I agree that Prednisone needs to be considered, I definitely needed it this time and it was crystal clear this was all about my immune system because I felt better within the first hour of taking it. No clay or humic acid etc was helping this and I could not eat any healing foods or I too would have barfed.

i agree with stopping the ensure, i was in a flare like this many years ago and tried ensure and all it did was give me major diahrea and then dehydrate me even more.  There is too much garbage in these drinks.

After ending up in the hospital for dehydration I was told to drink electolyte drinks, I had to force myself to eat as well.  Looking back Protien drinks with rice or almond milk would of been great.  I was nauseous with just the sight of food, and had no saliva in my mouth for weeks so I couldnt swallow food  for the life of me.  I lost 40 lbs in weeks.

I took alot of bio-k to add the good bacteria back into the colon, it seemed to help.  I eventually got better.

I'm having the same problem. I was just diagnosed with UC a few weeks ago, and after 2 weeks on Asacol and mesalamine enema I feel worse. Worse D, and now I'm nauseous all the time and don't want to see food. I'm trying to drink water...

Over the weekend I had a headache and fever, so I stopped all the meds. I'm waiting for my GI to call me back. To make matters worse, I was up all night running to the bathroom so I'm at work trying not to burst into tears from the exhaustion and stress.

I have suffered everything mentioned below by each of you. I was studying at university about 2years ago and it was horrible however I have come out of it although I still have the condition as the doctors would say but no symptoms whatsoever ever . At the same time they said I had to take my medication which I stopped taking as I thought it was making me worst. I was taking Asacal.

I have a solution that helped me and honestly it works 1teaspoon of turmeric powder , pinch of black pepper ( the black pepper has to be actual peppercorns and you have to crush these with a pestle until it turns into a powder, you cannot use a grinder or anything that has metal to crush it, something to do with the pepper not touching metal when being crushed ) and then mix in 2 tablespoons of plain yoghurt ( you can mix more yoghurt if you like but I used around 3 and quickly ate it because the taste is Horrible ).

Continue for a month - EVERYDAY and this has to be done EVERY morning BEFORE YOU EAT ANYTHING - i would do it before brushing as you are basically eating dried spices and yoghurt- AND EVERY NIGHT just before bedtime and once again bush your teeth if you wish.

You will see results in 2 weeks but I continued for about a month and Half and I'm FINE and back to normal. You will have to get off the medi action for this to work - BIG RISK I KNOW but I thought the medication was making me worst and I was forced upon this by a special doctor who dealt with reflexology.

You can purchase turmeric powder from a health shop or a supermarket but not all. Try to buy turmeric powder that is natural and not mixed with anything.

Hope this helps- and remember before medication there was only natural stuff that people used to get better :)
