I wouldn't take ibuprofen with UC. There's a lot of info not to do that. Does she have a GI? If not then you should. I wouldn't be afraid to get an adult doctor but the sad truth is the docs only have a few treatments in their bags and that is it.

Yes she's a pediatric gi and we've not been unhappy with her style or reaction time but no real results and her on-call colleague said my daughter could have Motrin, when we called w pain, but the dr had said no originally so I wondered if she was suffering needlessly but I guess not. Then the drs. nurse said yes, Motrin was ok. Ahhh.

We go in Thursday and hope for relief. Twice we've had blood work and both times it's come back normal. My daughter said if its not a flair up, what is it?

I think she's making it the subject of her college entrance essay so thats something I guess.

Your daughter should NOT be taking NSAIDS (Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin, Indocin, etc.) because they can contribute to bleeding when people have UC. If the pediatric MD doesn't know that, it's definitely a good idea for you to find an adult-patient gastro who has experience treating IBD. In the meantime, have a look at ccfa.org Website sections on meds/pain relief. / Old Hat (32 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

NSAIDS cause bleeding? I had no idea. My daughter gets headaches a lot lately. Aspirin is better?

The IBD gastros generally recommend Tylenol for mild pain relief. Aspirin is also considered a no-no for IBDers. / Old Hat (32 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
