Has iron supplements affected anyone else?

I had a mild case of anemia, so my doctor (allegedly) prescribed Integra.  When I went to my latest appointment, he asked if I was still taking them.  I said I didn't know I was supposed to be taking them, so he prescribed them (again apparently).  After just three days on them, I had the worst case of diarrhea ever and my colitis flared up so badly that my stools were bloodier than I've ever had.  I stopped taking them immediately once I figured out (thank you google) that the iron pills were the likely culprit.  In two days, the blood went away and i'm back to normal (as normal as someone with UC can be anyway). 

I was just wondering if anyone else has had a reaction to iron pills...

I advise against taking oral iron supplements. See if you can get IV infusions if you are really anemic. Otherwise eat iron rich foods.

My GI told me to take iron pills for anemia but never said which ones. I think there is no one type that works the same for everyone.
I have tried different slow acting products and find that Ferro-Sequels slow-release tablets work for me.
I cut them in half and take one half in the am with food and the other half in the late afternoon with food.

Also find that eating raisins helps a lot.

I've been taking Feosol for probably 10 years and have never had an issue with it luckily.  I had iron levels on the very low end of normal (like 3 points above the bottom of the range) even though I was having no bleeding. The supplements have helped get me up into the middle of the normal range.

My GI is strongly against oral iron supplements -- she says it can irritate the lining of the colon very badly. I'd ask about IV iron or get it in your diet.
