Hey everyone,I'v come across lil slowpokes post regarding his problem with white covering and white through my stool (not mucus).

I am also suffering from the same problem mad .  I  have been on asacol 800mg (3 per day) for around 18 months.  Can anyone help me or give advice.  I would really like to hear how Lil slowpoke got on with the same problem.

I'm not going to insult ur intellect and say its toilet tissue. If its semi- to translucent and integrated in the formed stool, kinda stringy like thin clear onion or snake skin.. its intestinal tissue. The intestines sluff off cells periodically just like our skin. It is disposed in the stool. From my experience this is a good sign coming out of a flare (btw any formed stool is cause for celebration post flare) but if u are in remiss and approaching a flare, mucus sometimes follows this shedding.

Hi, Celt, with me it turned out to be the canasa I was using. Little wax bullet shaped suppositories. I didn't think it was that, but when I stopped using canasa,the white streaks went away. I'm on cancasa again, and the streaks are back. I guess when the wax melts, the white is left behind. I think people have reported that asacol coverings come out in their stool, maybe some of the meds are doing the same thing.Cancasa is asacol designed for the other end.

It's not intestinal "tissue".... Yes, I asked my GI about it.

While cells are sloughed, it's mixed up in the mucous and poo and not noticable. There are no lining shreds that would come off...that shredded stuff is mucous and stool.

If you're taking fibre supplements or anything like chia seeds or mucilage type stuff, that's what it could also be, especially mixed in throughout the stool.

Unless you're flaring or have pockets of infection in your colon...it could also be pus.

It was tissue my friend, like sausage skin. Trust me I ziplocked that bad boy and took it in fearing pathogens. I know what pus and mucus and veggies all kinda of fun things that are in there look like by now. Healthy intestinal cells slough off normally but we aren't exactly normal are we? I'm sure your GI can attest to that as well.

This was awhile back when I had a super flare. We studied the scope results (yeah I like to see them after a few days on the follow up) and I was hamburger more than 90cm in where he stopped fearing a perf. First time I ever noticed them I was tapering off pred as I began to form solids. The only thing we could come up with was that it was some form of tissue that had built up on my mucosal lining. We kicked around other ideas like mucilage, plaque, cancer, candida, staph strep colonies, etc. Sent it out and Path tests came back neg so wasn't a baddy. I'll be honest I still don't know what it is/was but it only appears during flare windows and seems to be diet independent. Maybe I should DNA mark the next batch to see if it's cancer tissue deviating from my healthy DNA tissue.

Just sharing my experience to someone who may have seen and thought the same thing and even dropped the tp joke my GI dropped on me. It is what it is.

I came across this thread via a google search.


Kinda wondred what it was but not too freaked as my colon has a mind of its own and pushes out some
bizarre concoctions. (google this phrase : 'gut brain cells')

Recently came off mesalazine 4800mg/day and finished a pred taper dose.
Seems to be related to these drugs.
Have noticed the thin clear 'onion' skin in bm. Also white streaks (maybe its the powdered mesalazine)


In remission on 6MP, 50mg every second day.
6MP is a powerful drug from the chemotherapy sector but just happy to not have the bloody squits anymore.

     White streaks, or mucus threads in bm could be from rectal meds or sign of impending flare.  At least that used to be the case with me.

Like someone else said, I've seen this from Canasa. There are streaks of it through the stool and it looks like it has the consistency of playdoh (but I'm not touching it!!)

This happens to me because of the Canasa as well.
