Might I suggest another YA author? S. A. Bodeen - all 3 of her YA fictional novels are rapid, fast reads. Not a trilogy.
My fave: The Compound. Main character is a 16 yo boy, twin to a brother, from a very wealthy family. His father had been building an underground bunker (more or less a 3 story mansion with multiple rooms), in case the U.S. experienced a nuclear attack. Putting his family thru routine drills on evacuation plans. The story begins 6 years into their 15 year under ground existence, because of said attack. His father thought of everything - an infirmary, a chapel, cattle (yes, underground). But problems begin to arise for this large and wealthy family (each child's underground bedroom was the exact replica of their bedroom in the family home). At times creepy, as the author describes what it's been like to not to breathe fresh air for 6 years.
I simply could not put down The Compound (much like The Hunger Games).
Her second title is The Gardener. Good story, more sci-fi than The Compound. Still worth the read.
And her most recent novel released in August, 2012 is titled The Raft (already receiving rave reviews on amazon, I've read it, and liked it).
