I am in remission and have been taking only 2 canasa a week. I havent taken asacol since the begining of last summer! I recently had a 6 month follow up with my gi and he told me since I am doing so well there is no need for him to push asacol on me if I am fine and to continue with the canasa. He did say that it made no sense that the asacol is working but he isnt gonna change something that is working for me. I did tell him all about
my summer of growing the vast amounts of salad which I beleive put me in remission last summer. He brushed it off but said maybe the fiber helped..
If you didnt read my past post about
this it was a great summer for me and was the first summer I ever grew this gourmet salad in my garden. I had so much of it which I was picking and eating like a few weeks into planting it that I was eating it in large amounts daily. It tasted so good and also I didnt want to waste it so I ate it till it was coming out of my ears.. I soon realized that I was not bleeding and then took a chance and went off my asacol. I did however start by taking half dose and at the time didnt take any canasa as it was prescribed to use on an as needed basis. It was like 2 weeks and I said "oh well here it goes I felt so good I stopped all meds! I lasted over 3 months! What I didnt realize it that it was late summer and my garden was petering out and my salad was the first to seed out and kinda die off. It was but 3 weeks after not eating this stuff I flared again. Keep in mind this past summer I ate and drank beer and etc like a normal person. I truely felt and mostly in my mind I was healed/cured! I realy beleived that. Then one weekend I started to feel like run down and a few days later I saw some blood. I then resumed taking my canasa which I took for about
a week straight which nipped the bleeding in the bud. I then began to read about
the spinach diet and started that. It was then that I realized OMG. It was all that fresh salad I grew and was eating daily that helped me! I told my wife and she was like yes thats true and right after the garden died and I then started to feel lousy again.
So here I am back in remission but still take my canasa but onbly 2 a week. I plan on trying some of those natural suppositories some of us here are trying that seem to work. Maybe I can get off meds again completely. That is my goal / plan.
Day 2 on the spinach/blueberry smoothie.
I had a perfect movement this am. It was extra hard and noticed a green color. I even noticed It had more smell to it..lol
Funny thing is that prior to getting UC I had a terrible bout of the worst gas ever for like 6 months straight. It wouldnt take much and after eating anything I would have it. Then bam UC a few months later. I havent had even the faintest smell to anything since gas or poo. I notice that alot here had experianced the same. I am wondering if there is anything we can gather from thaty in relation to this disease as it was a pre UC sysmptom..as to my post UC sysmtoms are no smell at all!
