I have asked the same question in the ostomies forum and post it here too since some people here also had the surgery. My son may have to have it soon. Thanks.

I would also like to know this. Hoping to revive this old thread for an answer of who their surgeon was and the outcome of the ileostomy surgery and j-pouch surgery.

Can you get a J Pouch done in one operation when there is no cancer or anything like that? I may not be able to afford two/three surgeries

You should pay for COBRA if you intend on having the surgery.

1 step is not common in the US. I think they do it in other countries but it's risky and not recommended here.

Notsosicklygirl is right...the one-step procedure is done very rarely in the US. It's either 2 or 3 surgeries depending on your general health and the medicines that you have been on. I am also considering getting a j-pouch surgery and I wish it could all be over with one surgery!!

Btw, if you don't mind my asking..how bad are your symptoms? I am conflicted sometimes because I feel my life after the surgery might not be all that better!
