proper way to take slippery elm power

so i am newly diagnosed and right in a middle of what i think is a severe flare that has been going on for 2 weeks now.  .  Bloody D BM 8-10x a day and cramping.  I'm on liadla for 10 days ,50mg pred for 7 days and mesalamine enema tonight will be 2nd night..

anyway i should have my slippery elm powder in tonight

i know there are tons of threads on this, but i just want to make sure i do it right

how should i go about using it so it does not interfere with the meds?

I definitely give at least an hour window around slippery elm and other meds. I mix 1 teaspoonful with a small amount of cold water as soon as I get up in the mornings and chug it down. I repeat each night right before I go to bed. Basically I start and end my day with Slippery Elm. I take meds with breakfast and after supper. Hope SE helps you.

Experimentation. I started at 1tsp twice daily and within days felt better. Then I read in this site that a good dose was one TABLEspoon twice daily so I tried it. It was way too much for me. I dropped back to the teaspoon dose and have been doing it for almost nine months with great results. I found that if I took it after my morning bathroom adventure it sort of soothes my insides. Also I have not had any mouth ulcers since taking it.

are mouth ulcers common with UC?

I am still on the initial prednisone from my first episode so I don't know what all to expect. I feel better from the UC already but I figured the slippery elm sounds like the sort of thing that would make me feel good anyway. And cooling off my colon is something I am interested in. A relapse scares the bejesus out of me. Not because of the relapse but because of the steroids.
