Is remicade for me?!

I am new to this forum! And I am newly diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I was diagnosed last summer at the age of 25. I took prednisone for about 2 mths and took apriso 3 times a day and went into remission. Then I decided it was time for my husband and I to have a baby! I stayed in remission until 3 mths after I had my c section.
I ended up with E. coli in my uterus from the surgery(I don't even want to think about the dirty tools that were used on me!) and I was on some heavy doses of antibiotics and NSAIDs for the swelling. By the third mth post partum I noticed a flare coming in. I was immediately told to start prednisone again and start taking my apriso again. After 2 weeks of being on the steroids I picked up c diff infection. That was the worst thing that has EVER happened to me! Omg the pain I had to go through!!!
Well I continued the steroids and it started affecting my blood pressure and blood sugar(after 3 mths of being on 40 mg) I had another colonoscopy last week and I've completely tapered off the steroids. I honestly thought that after I got my c diff infection under control that I was getting better! I thought the dr was going to tell me after my colonoscopy last week I was on the mend! I'm not having as much pain and urgency as I had last summer with my first big flare. I'm only having Bms about 3 times a day with only a little bit of blood. But my results of my colonoscopy came back that I have many ulcers in my entire colon.
The dr has recommended remicade and imuran. I should start remicade next week. But after reading some of the stories on here I feel like I'm not that bad off? I'm really not having that many issues like I did with my last flare. But I still have tons of ulcers?! I'm so confused if remicade is for me? All the side effects that come with taking these two drugs are pretty scary! I'm still new at this disease and I've been reading books but I still don't really know my options?! I've taken the steroids and asacol made my stomach hurt every time I took it and there was no change when I was taking apriso.

Only you can decide if it's right for you. You also never know about the side effects, you may have none, this may be the best drug that you can be on, although there is always the chance that it may be bad or not work or any other possibility. It works for many and I'm sure there are many like me who would rather be on remicade then the only other option we have (removal).

I did Remicade infusions for 3 1/2 yrs for crohns. It was a Godsend for me. I went every 4 weeks and it kept me out of the hospital a lot. Yes, it is scary reading all of the information. However, if you read the possible side effects for Tylenol you probably would never take another one of those either. You must keep in mind if one person reports an incident by law they have to list it regardless if its actually from the Remicade or not.

My infusions were done at the hospital as an outpatient. Because I reacted on the 3rd infusion I was given pre-meds from then on and never had anymore reactions. I was given IV Benadryl & Soluable Medrol and it knocked me out so I slept thru the infusion, lol. They fed us lunch. Be sure to take some snacks with you and something to do you will get bored without something to do. I could tell a difference after the 3rd infusion but at the time we were treating my crohns disease. I was not dx'd with UC until June 2005 after a scope and my gi was shocked, he said the entire colon was nothing but ulcers. Yes, I do have both diseases.
