Venting-Compromised immune system sick a lot

Since sept '12 I've had a gi staph infection along with a flare that has seemed to be clearing up in the past two weeks. But now I woke up this morning with a stomach flu (I hope!) just vomiting no d and it seems to be getting better at least I can eat toast and don't feel nausea. It just stinks dealing with all this! Being on immuran and humira help with keeping uc flares down but I'm tired of being sick all the time! It really lowers your immune system down. I'm down for a day and a half from my humira shots every week(flu like symptoms with no upset stomach). So as I'm lying here in bed....I'm frustrated and had to vent. Thanks for listening!

I'm sorry Heen :(. It does suck. Have you been on Imuran for awhile? I'm just wondering because it can mess with your Liver/Gallballder and that will make you sick as well. If the vomiting sticks around, have it checked out. But hopefully you are past the worst of it.

Make sure to take care of yourself and wash your hands! Also, have you had your flu and pneumonia shots? They don't prevent, but can make those illnesses less severe. I'm on Humira and have had to delay my flu shot for awhile but I'm so hoping to get it on Tuesday.

I used to blame being ill all the time on azathioprine, but since I came off it in July I've been continually ill with a whole host of viruses. Now I think that flaring with UC and generally being run-down as a result is an important contributor to getting sick all the time.

Lodi, I've been on imuran for about 8years and started humira 4 years ago....was doing the shots biweekly until a flare in 2011 where I went to weekly. Imuran never bothered me. I can't speak for everyone,but I had no problems taking it or with the bloodwork they take.

It is a trade off when taking these drugs.

I only chose to go on those drugs because I exhausted everything else...was on remicade and it stopped working after 9 months...so the next step was humira. I have been in remission for months and the longest was a year....it was great!

I do try to exercise when possible. It seems as though since I have been on my one week shots of humira I've been sicker than normal. It wears on ya. I am a bit of a germa phobe when I go out....having the antibacterial gel with me at all times! Wash my hands a lot. Have handi wipes in my car, etc. All it takes is being around the wrong place and people!

ActiveUcer, I just had bloodwok on my liver and kidneys which were good, but never though of my gall bladder...hmmmm.. Keep an eye on that. I had my flu shot too. I've just been feeling crappy since Sept and I'm anxious for improvement!

Thanks for listening. Just seems like these drugs really open you up to catch any little bug that flies your way. A least my family is healthy.

Today was better, got my appetite back and just felt a little achy and listless but that seemed to go away as the day went on. Must have been a 2 day bug.

I gotta believe things will get better...just glad I have people that understand.....
