Hi, I have just been told to start using the salofalk enemas, how long does it take to get rid of it in a morning. Need to plan how long I need to be up before going to work.

It doesn't take me any extra time to get rid of it -- it just comes out when I have a BM, and most of the time, my poop is no different. Sometimes my poop will be a little bit looser the morning after using one, but that's it. And I don't even always poop the morning after, either. Even when I was (badly) flaring it didn't change anything.
It's nothing AT ALL like a fleet enema.

Thanks for that. Gonna wait till Friday before I take the first one just to be in the safe side. Wish me luck.

Ditto...they'll come out with your bm. Sometimes it'll come out alone if there's no stool in the lower colon, and you'll have other bms after that...depending on your state of a flare.
No luck needed...it's a different experience the first time. Just make them your best friend! I've used them for 24 years.
Are you also on oral mesalamine?
Welcome to the forum...where in the colon is your UC..throughout or limited?
Keep us posted on how you're doing.
Lay quietly, relax, and squeeze through the urge to get up and let it go if you get those sensations. it's a learned art, hopefully you'll not be discouraged.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, my uc is in the lower part of the bowel. So tonight is the night, I have sent the other half out so that I can do this in private tonight. Really not looking forward to it. Yes I'm on ascaol too. But since my endoscopy on Wednesday I an one on a 8week course of prednisone too.

Do it at bedtime. Lay quietly for at least a half hour.
Read the directions, shake well, and do NOT empty the air out of the bottle...it's a different one compared to the Rowasa.
Relax on your left side. You might want to add a bit of maybe KY (not vaseline) to the tip to help it glide in easier if you have extreme inflammation.
It might be difficult to get the med out first and to find a good hand position. Just find what works for you, but try not to move the nozzle around in the rectum. That, in itself, can trigger the need to go.
Once you've emptied the bottle, withdraw, cap it, wipe your butt with toilet paper (you have handy) or kleenex, discard into the trash bag.
Lay on your side for half an hour. You might want to position yourself so that you can watch TV or read a book.
You might get waves of nausea, growing, the urge to let it go...just squeeze your butt cheeks, breathe slowly, grunt, bite the sheets, whatever it is you can do to retain. It should pass in about
30 seconds.
It's not really a big deal, but it's a technique that you'll perfect over the years..
Keep us posted how it goes.

hey, I got my husband to administer the first one 24 years ago...lol. Didn't need to after that.
You'll do fine. Just prepare so that you don't have to move or jump up.

Ok so last night was the night. I didn't quite manage to squeeze all the liquid in as I'm not sure I got in a comfortable position when administrating it. Try again tonight and hopefully get the whole bottle squeezed. My stomach has fetch off all day, will this be from the salofalk?

did you hold it in all night? Have you let it out today?
You're flaring...part could be from having the extra liquid if you haven't let it out yet.
Try not to make too much out of symptoms unless you're getting much worse.
Let me know how tonight goes.
Awesome to hear you're using them.

woohoo.....
What exactly were the directions that the doc gave you regarding the enemas?
When do you see him/her next?
Do you have refills?

All the instructions were to take a bedtime. I have to wait until the results from my biopsys are in before seeing him again. But I have a months worth to take.

How are your symptoms at this point?
I'd say be on them for the entire month nightly. See how you do then....and please taper to every second night if all is well. Do that for a while and taper to every third night or twice a week for maintenance.
Are you in Canada or UK?

I also used salofalk enemas at bedtime when in a flame up. Salofalk enemas are an anti inflammatory so keeping it in all night is really good. I had trouble keeping in the predisone enema of a morning so I started reading books in bed for 1/2 an hour while on my side so the enema would take. It worked well for me, even after I became med free but am on a strict diet and supplements from a naturopath to stay healthy, I still read it has helped me took away my anxiousness. Congratulations you are doing wonderfully I hope you see good results soon :)

Hi, my dump toms at the min are better that before. On the pre from last wheel. 8 week course reducing a tablet each week. I have a months supply of the salofalk which I have to take every night. If they work for me I will be asking for more. I'm in the uk.
At the min not had and ick feeling when taking then, try to o to bed when I'm really tired so that when I have administered the enema I a relaxed that I will fall alsleep quickly.
I get a lot of gurgling in a morning, is this normal. As soon as my eyes are
open the noises start and the I have trouble getting back to sleep.

Good no problems using it.
Yes, normal for gurgling. Eyes
open, and the body starts working in "wake-up mode".
As you heal, you'll have less of that.

I've been taking the salofalk enemas now since Friday and I still don't think that I have managed to get a full bottle in. Is this normal? Because of the amount of air that is being squeeze in I am finding it difficult. Is it because of how I am administering it, I'm stood with one foot on the loo seat and one on the floor. Anyone got any good tips. I does seemed to have calmed it down a little but getting fed up of the growling noises in my stomach in a morning .....lol.

You need to lay down, not stand.
Are you shaking the medication before using it?
The bottle is the accordian shape, right? If it's compressed fully, you have it all in.

Gonna try and do it laid on the bed tonight to see if that helps. I shake the bottle for about
30secs like it says. I'll keep you informed tomorrow of how I do....
Thanks again, I am so grateful for all the support I'm getting on here.

And you should be able to squeeze the air out of the bottle before inserting the tip. That should help a lot with the bubbles in your belly. I used enemas for years before getting that suggestion from this forum!

Thanks for that, I read not to squeeze the air out, you never know what to do for the best
