Hi there,

I was wondering if any of you could please help me.

Have any of you diagnosed with UC taken the emergency contraceptive pill? I've had conflicting information, my pharmacist couldn't prescribe it, but a doctor did and didn't know why the Pharmacist didn't prescribe it?

I'm a little worried now. I've taken the Levonelle, but worried it may not work/ have a bad reaction with my condition.

I would be appreciative if any of you knew more.

I think the morning after pill is just a double or triple dose of the progestin levonorgestral. I am sure there are other formulations but this is the standard as far as I Know. I don't think there is any indication that this would cause UC but it could cause hormonal changes that may trigger a flare up.

Do you know if you were diagnosed with UC or perhaps you had a bought of colitis? The latter is a one time "bug", where as UC is a disease or condition.

I've taken it with no issues. I don't know why your pharmacist wouldn't prescribe it.

Thank you for the replies - really helpful. Glad it worked ok for you.

I've already been diagnosed with UC a few months ago. Strangely because of this, my pharmacist said she couldn't give me the pill.

I got a prescription from the dr in the end. But in the pill booklet it says tell your dr if you have an ibd. Anyone know why?

I needed it a few weeks ago, my pharmacist checked everything to make sure and said as long as i had no absorbtion issues I could have it

Fingers crossed all fine. [touches wood incredibly fast] haha

I'm also on the pill (missed a dose obviously) and my Dr said I could go on the injection when i was diagnosed with UC but as i was obviously absorbing things well then it was fine to stay on it.

Hmm...I never saw that in the pill booklet I had but I must have missed it. I guess you have to weigh the pros/cons...I think it may also affect your UC if you get pregnant so probably best to take it! Hope it doesn't cause you any issues.
