Bleeding then abdominal pain

Hello all,

I was diagnosed at Jan, 2011 with UC. During the last two years, I had a lot of bleeding. sometimes, it was controlled by Mesalamine and Pentasa, Asacol suppositories. BUT, I had not any pain anywhere.

offf, but during the last two months, there is a little blood, BUT there is a sharp pain at left side under rib cage, sometimes the whole abdominal.

It gonna kill me.

Please, what are the reasons? Why bleeding changed to PAIN? Are there any ways to control or decrease the pain?

Pentasa what....capsules or enemas?

Depending on how much spasming we have and where and how much inflammation....pain can be anywhere in the colon, not necessarily where we have flare.

As well....food intake can disagree if it creates gas, which in turn can cause cramping.

I'd suggest you ask your doc for an antispasmodic. I use Bentylol (dicyclomine). It can help a lot.

I also use a heated microwave bag to ease the cramping...also summy massage to move the gas along. (following the colon from lower right, up to under the right ribcage, across to the left under left ribcage, down the left and angle a bit in to the centre of the pubic bone.

Not all of us bleed with flares since the inflammation happens in progressive degrees.

Are you having diarrhea at this point or more formed stool? As we heal, our symptoms change as well.

Does it means that a larger area is affected.

I thought that Flares means bleeding, because it is the first time that I have pain during the last two years.

Really, mostly I have a constipation, but now stools better.

In truth, you should be on the enemas. you'll have stools because of limited inflammation.

Call the doc and see if you can double the suppositories at the very least, but I urge you ask for the enemas.

Are you taking any probiotics and fibre supplements?

No, really. I am not taking any probiotics and fiber supplements.
What is your suggestion?

Just suppositories.

Always, Dr.s recommend Prednisone , but I am rejecting, so I do not trust Doctors anymore.

By the way according the colonscopy, just 12 cm of my rectum affected.

Yes, it seems you have a very limited amount of inflammation, I'd suggest you at least double the supps or add a higher 5ASA amount in the form of enemas.
You can use them during the night, and the supp during the day.

The fibre and probiotics I use is in my signature.

You do have quite a few options...stick with the 5ASA meds as long as you can.
