Really could this Super Critical Care by Renew life be my answer?

Hi All,

Whenever I take this I have the best morning in the world! My stool might not be formed but they hit the toilet and the water stays clear, not all murkey with diaareah! No stomach spasams either. No painful tension in my rectum. No blood.

I have two flagyl pills to go so I'll see how I do when that's out of my system.

Yesterday was a day from heck! Back and forth to the bathroom from 7 to noon! With blood. So I tried another super critical care and this morning... awesome! It kind of cleans out my bowel and I don't run back and forth to the bathroom all morning.  It's high in Bifido which is good for the large intestine. Only seven (7) packets come in a box and they are expensive.

I just thought I would share. They have like 200 billion live cultures per packet.

I tried them while flaring and I didn't notice a difference. We are all different, I hope they help you.

I use a less potent variety of Renew Life (80 Billion I believe) and it seems to help. I upped it to two pills daily (inadvertently) and felt better than I have in a long time. So now I take two pills a day. I've given up on trying to figure out correlation vs causation but I'm sticking with what seems to be working....at least until it stops working.

I have racked my brain so much that I'm consumed with figuring this stuff out! Good analogy and I will try to release it all from my mind today, so I can be free of worry. I always used the word of "figuring out" but I like what you wrote better, it says it all!!!

I swear by Renew Life... The difference for me is I can start to digest complex carbs to a degree - which is due to the Bifo I assume. But for me I have to take a lot, daily to see any difference.

I take the 80 Billion but take 2 with every meal (Or used to) along with a digestive enzyme. At the same time I always have a cup 24 hour home made yogurt everyday. SO lot's of probiotics!

It didn't keep me from flaring eventually, but sure as heck made for more normal stool and less pain, less blood during the flare - and the combination of all of the above now being on meds - well... Someday's it's like there's nothing wrong now. Like normal before I was ever sick, which is amazing really...

I've recently (a few days ago) switched to 2 renew life 80 billion before bed and I take one package of VSL 3 in the morning mixed in with my cup of home made yogurt... the result is now one or two perfectly formed, large, satisfying trips to the bathroom each morning :)

I find the cost vs amount/type of probiotics is more value for the buck from VSL...

Anyway - High doses of daily probiotics have made a huge difference with me - 1 cup of home made 24/hr yogurt = roughly 750 billion, One VSL3 = 450 billion, and two Renew Life = 160 Billion for a total of 1.3 trillion daily. Anything less than half that amount and the benefits seem to go away.

Ha well it's much easier said than done. But something I try to remember when I start to rack (sp?) my brain because of this crazy disease. :-)

I have the critcal colon care on order.... Awaiting. In the meantime, im taking acidophilis and bifido with raw organic goat milk.. 2 days in fingers crossed.

I like renew life, too. i'm not sure the probiotic is doing anything though since the antibiotics kill everything in it. bifido bacteria can't survive antibiotics at all.

it's a good probiotic nonetheless so keep taking it after the flagyl is done. I've only bought 2 boxes of the 7 day super critical care just because it's so expensive to keep up with. I really liked the taste of it though.

Canada mark, i'm a probiotic junkie, too! I do 6 oz of homemade yogurt a day, a few Tbsp of sauerkraut before breakfast, 6 capsules of lactobaccilus gg and sacro b., and kombucha when I have it. I just ordered a probiotic I've never tried before called Prescript Assist. anyone ever heard of this? it costs a freakin fortune so I hope it's worth it.

I use Renew Life 80 Billion and swear by it and I also take the Florastor, or another S. Boulardii probiotic. And a gazillion other things, but those are two of the ones that I will NOT let myself run out of.

I take the 50 bil one. Doesn't help too much but it does enough. VSL was better but I can't afford that.

It's funny how this disease can effect people so differently. I used renew life 80 billion and I had a violently bad reaction from it and the same exact thing happened to me when I used Florastor.

@Banana - huh, I totally have to look int this prescript assist. Very cool! Thanks for sharing that. I'd love to hear how this works for you. Being a proibi junky and all :) haha.

The most MAJOR difference I've noticed taking lots of probiotics is that everyone around me over the last few months has been completely rocked by colds and flu's... I even drank from the same glass by accident that my mom did while she was just coming down with a cold. She was laid out for some time once her cold developed fully - the most I had was a slight tickle/scratchy throat for a few days.

They seem to either kick my immune system into overdrive or kick the crap outa cold and flu viruses in high doses. I've read something about this recently as well - a study... gut bacteria fight viruses not just in your gut but throughout your system. I think old mike might have posted something about this as well but not sure.

@gary - yes it sure is crazy how different we all are... I made home made 24/hr yogurt with Yogourmet starter once a few weeks ago, so lots of Lacto and no Bifo bacteria - the result was an insanely violent reaction the next day. Never made it since then and never had another reaction like that. What's odd is I used to eat this same yogurt daily when I was strict SCD. Now since using Renew Life with Bifo, it seems the Bifo and a large quantity of Lacto don't play nicely together anymore...

Hey Freddy - I'm sorry I just looked at the bottle in the fridge - It says Ultimate Flora 50 Billion from Renew Life.... Not 80 Billion Critical Care...

The whole renew life thing cost a fortune when I took them with every meal - but darn they made a difference. It was $70 for a bottle of 60 capsules of 50 Billion Renew Life from the store - every 3-7 days depending on how many I took... One can only eat so much yogurt and all so I took the pills as it was easy to take to work and such.

So that's $300 plus a month - which is insane really... Stupid actually.

I remember now that I looked for a higher dose or powder from of Renew Life - but could not finding at the stores around here. Was hoping to find something more cost effective for large doses. Then I remembered about VSL3 and did the math - it's a bit better of a deal. The last two days out of curiosity I took two packages of VSL3 mixed with one cup of yogurt in a smoothie before bed... This resulted in awesome formed stool - lot's of bulk etc. So I'm going to stick with this for a bit and see what happens.

This plus the pred/imuran is for sure a one-two punch for me... Awesome results.

Either way it's all a total rip off in my opinion. I keep saying one of these days I'd like to figure out how to make this stuff... Or culture it somehow...


Have you had any noticeable difference? At first I had a ton of gas, bloating and such till my system ummm... adapted to it's new friends... Then that went away.

I havent taken the critical stuff yet... They're "processing" my order or something.. Taking their freaking time. But I have, for 2 days now, been on raw organic fresh goats milk, with acidophilis and bifido simultaneously... First night seemed to maybe make things a tiny bit worse... Second night and day (thats as far in as I am), seems better?? Im not optimistic, but of course, hoping. Ive read that raw goats milk has many many health benefits, apparently from the founder of the mayo clinic himself?... and that it "goes well" with bifido, kind of like a catalyst. Too early to say. Yeah, the cost is insane. Ive spent so much on so many d a m n supplements.... Just praying one hits the mark. We will see.

I do believe fresh raw goats milk is rare and awesome, but whether or not it helps my condition, is another matter.

In the past I've found Milk to cause me to have what I call "Putified Poop", haha.. Same with a lot of grains It's disgusting - All of a sudden it's like a foamy, frothy, floating, loose, putrid and very foul smelling thing... The only other time I have had this is on the onset and through to diagnosis initial treatment of this darn disease... when it went away.

But I have never tried raw milk, and I do now tolerate cream on a daily basis in my coffee now as well as some lactose in say protein powder when I'm in a pinch or a hurry for something to eat and the fridge is empty. This change as well came about from the introduction of high dose probiotics.

I'd soooo love to add a glass of milk here and there back into my diet at some point. I do make organic goats milk yogurt from time to time. I like the taste. And it's easy on the system. Are you not worried about getting a bacterial infection or something from the raw milk?

Not really worried. I know the grower. Id be worried about things in the store. Ive consumed gallons and gallons of this in years past from the same animals. I think its helping, but like i said, im too jaded to be hopeful.

And btw, real fresh, organic raw goats milk, from the right breed of properly fed and cared for goats, is like nothing youve ever had. Nothing like anything you buy anywhere in a carton.

I am incredibly lucky in that my latest insurance carrier pays for VSL3DS, for just cost of my copay. used to get zip for it so now I am skewing more to VSL3 than I used to, but I still take multiple brands. I notice some benefit since my insurance coverage changed, as my overall probiotic intake has increased- so I am thinking of getting more/ paying more copays and trying 4x the standard VSL3DS for a few months and see how that goes. I have yet to discover any IBD med other than low dose steroids that I can tolerate, period, so I am all in for megadosing on probiotics and see if maybe that finally does the trick.

@Mark - Regarding the cost of probiotics and culturing, I've managed to make yogurt from single strain probiotics such as 299v, SCDophilus(from GIPro), rhamnosus GG(from Culturelle), salivarius, reuteri(from Biogaia). I use one or two capsules to make about 2c of yogurt and then use that to make about 5 batches of 1gal. It's really cost effective. Only downside is occasionally I get a bad batch of the initial ferment but it's pretty obvious and I just try again. Once I get a good initial starter batch the subsequent 1gal batches are always good. Theoretically one could use one batch to start the next continuously but I feel safer going so more than two generations. Haven't tried bifida strains. Also have cultured boulardii successfully in various substrates. That yeast grows like crazy.

That's interesting... I never thought of simply looking for single strains in the stores. There has to be a basic supplier for this stuff somewhere (starter strains) - I mean these probiotic supplement manufactures buy it from somewhere I'd assume... I've read about this and even came across a post linking to one a long time ago but have since forgotten where that was.

Have you had any luck with probiotics? Seems to me, much like med's and diet everyone reacts differently. Some positive, some negative.

still another good morning, mushy but no pain or blood. I've taken my last antibiotics this morning, thank GOD those things are nasty but they helped me alot! I'll see how I'm doing in a week or so. I'm going to continue with these probiotics and see how I do.

Have you ever tried adding canned spinach to your diet? I added a half can a day while tapering Pred after having some symptoms come back at around 20 mg. I'm now down to 12.5 mg with minimal symptoms (formed, no blood or mucous, just a bit of gas and an extra BM or two first thing in the morning but good for the whole rest of the day).

I've found a way to make it where it doesn't taste disgusting by adding garlic powder, onion powder, salt and dried Romano cheese, then nuking. Even my dog begs for some now! :-)

yes I have and I get loose stools. I love spinach! I feel so wonderful the past few days :) no urgency or accidents or blood :) I kind of empty in the morning and I'm good for the day. I could be healing from the antibiotics :)
