Just curious if anybody has been on Uceris. If yes, what is the dose that you take daily?

I myself don't think it is available until March but I was fooling around on the interent and found the instant savings card.

It IS available now! I see my GI on Monday..I am going to assume it will be 3 a day just as my endocort is.

The website has a banner saying "Availble Now". Looks like once a day dosage.

i've had it on order from express scripts. they keep delaying it. it's slated for shipment on the 28th...

grrr, it's based on a steroid. According to what it says, it's not systemic but still..


and this:

"UCERIS is taken once daily in the morning with or without food for up to 8 weeks."

*** happens after 8 weeks....UC goes away?

if you read on it says additional 8 week packs can be supplemented. steroids are not supposed to be a long term solution. they are meant to get you into a remission and maintenance phase. the benefit of uceris is that it should have less systemic effects vs prednisone since it's not absorbed primarily through the bloodstream

I'll probably try it cause...right now, what do I have to lose.

I want a f.... long term solution and I don't give a sh.... what it is. I'm on Remicade and that doesn't do it...so w.t.f.

I was reading the info. on the uceris website and it says one pill a day as opposed to the 3 a day of entocort- huh? So everyone of every shape and size takes ne a day? How does one adjust for body weight, severity of symptoms, etc? How does one taper? Or is tapering irrelevant because the systemic absorption is so tiny? Still strange how they expect one to adjust ones dose.

Since it is not systemic you don't prescribe by body weight. I don't think they go by severity of symptoms unless it is just a decision of to take or not to take. Also, since it is nonsystemic you don't taper. You take the one pill per day for 8 weeks and then just stop. There is no adjusting of doses.

Here's the word on tapering budesonide (Uceris) from Wikipedia:

"Budesonide in comparison with prednisolone has been associated with fewer bone density losses, and, unlike other corticosteroids, has little influence on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, which also limits the need of tapering before discontinuation."

The 3 a day endocort vs 1 a day Uceris is because Uceris is 9 mg, compared to endo's 3 mg. so same dosing. Anyone afraid of this because it is a steroid..it is NOTHING like pred! I've been on endocort for well over a year no w no adverse reactions.

Do you think Remicade is a long term solution? As a matter of fact, IMHO, all TNF blockers are a super dangerous class of drugs. I would be fine with Imuran than TNF blockers. How long anyone has used any TNF blocker successfully before developing a resistance, 5 years, 7 years. Haven't heard anyone going more than that and what do you have next? Nothing, go under the knife and be dependent on pouch supplies for the rest of your life..

I am no fan of steroid either but the good thing about UCeris, as a preparation, very little systemic effects. I have been on Pred for quite long time and not interested in it any further. I just hope that the price is decent that I can afford.

Edit... I will survive UC but will be killed by the bill. A month supply of Uceris costs me $1318.25

well it's labeled as a long term solution. More so than Ulceris's 8 weeks. lol

I think the idea is to switch TNFs blockers every 5 years or so.

and about the pouch supplies, not necessarily if you have the j pouch surgery. heh.

I called pharmacy yesterday - they have it.
I called Aetna yesterday they have it tier3 price is $65 because they consider it not preferred with budenside available
I called GI and got the run around.
Seeing the GI tomorrow so he can tell me more about worms and biologix so I can get cancer like my grandfather.

GI refused iron infusion, hospital gave me 4, no longer having visual artifacts, notice they were sure to cover themselves in the physicians report saying 'patient refuses colon surgery ,patient refuses biologix'.

Surgeons were great, GI dudes seem to look no further than the gut.

I just started taking it today. Luckily, my dr had a bunch of samples so it's enough for about the next 3 weeks. Hope it works!

i'm at 40mg of prednisone, and my doctor doesn't want me to even start uceris until i get down to 10mg. i'm not sure i agree with the logic... i feel like we should hit this from as many directions as possible to calm my flare down.

I wonder what mine says tomorrow, they still act like its not available.

Everyone wants me off prednisone in case I have to go back for cath lab surgery to fix blocked Ulner Artery
