First few inches of BM hard

Its been 2 years since I was hospitalized with UC and the asacol has been a life saver, thank God. But I'm still having problems with my first BM in th morning, if I dont take 700mgs of Mag-Cit (Natural Calm) before bed, the first 3 inches of my BM is hard and will kick off a flair after a wile if I dont take Mag-Cit to keep it soft enough to pass...After the first few inches the rest behind it will be the consistency of soft serve Ice cream...lol...Im a bit concerned what the Mag-Cit might be doing to my kidneys, long term although I have been using it for 7 years. Iv tried other laxatives but have trouble tolerating them. I also take one 100mg ducosate for motility...???

You can try taking slippery elm powder mixed in a few ounces of juice at night before bed. Works for me.

Do you take probiotics?

Slippery elm has been good for me, it's like a perfect balance. If I eat say All bran, it's to much fibre and then I'm constipated, regardless of how much I drink. I'm looking at pysillium seed powder but not having much like finding it in Australia.
