Hey everybody, I've been a long time sufferer from Ulcerative Colitis, I was diagnosed in 1994 when I was 6 years old after a reaction to amoxacillin.
They were able to put it into remission for quite a few years, my next flare was in 2006 and was much more mild.
More recently however, I've been having a bit of a nasty flare (Has been off and on since October [The bleeding started after drinking a little too much and having a bit of a fight with my boyfriend] and constant now since Christmas.) The actual discomfort started around mid to late January. I had my GI give me a colonscopy last Friday (Was super scared actually because I hadn't had one in over 4 years) to which he said it looks like moderate to mild inflammation of the rectum.
I asked him if there was anything I should be worried about and he told me it looked alright otherwise and to call for the biopsy in two weeks.
Prior to this (Around mid February) I went to my GP and got a prescription for 500mg Mesalamine suppositories and Sulfasalzine oral. Usually when I'm having a minor flare these will clear it up with in a few days but my symptoms seem to be just as bad as before (Achy abdomen; more discomfort then straight pain, long and thin stools, more undigested food then normal, blood with mucus and sometimes loose stools, lots of gut sounds on my left side and lower abdomen).
My GI upped the dosage of each, (doubling both to 1g per day). I've also been taking Omega 3 (for almost 4 months now and 8 probiotic supplements daily (4 in the morning and 4 at night, along with the activia yogurt since my colonscopy last Friday). I've stopped drinking completely since the symptoms continued into January and eliminated dairy since the start of February. I was also smoking Marijuana throughout February as it seemed to be the only thing alleviating the discomfort but I've stopped that in case ingesting the smoke was making things worse.
It just doesn't seem to be improving any, my stools are just as thin, if not thinner. I've noticed a bit less blood but still am bleeding along with occasional mucus.
I was just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences? Would appreciate any support. I'm rather worried it might be another problem with my tract.
I booked another appointment to see my GI but cannot till the 25th of this month but if it's not on it's way to getting better before then I'll probably check myself into the hospital. (It's getting to the point where it's getting hard to even go into work).
I'm getting to my wit's end here. I had mild clinical depression before the flare and it's getting worse with these new problems (Which I know is terrible as UC is exacerbated with stress and my stress is getting worse with my UC).
