Morning (or appropriate salutation for your time zone), and greetings to all.
I was diagnosed after a colonoscopy in March 2012 following 3 months of gradually worsening symptoms (bloody diarrhea 3-5 times a day). Following 3 weeks of Asacol tablets with little improvement, I had the suppository added to my meds, and literally overnight my symptoms vanished. My only flare up following that was in July when my gastroenterologist 'experimented' by taking me off the suppositories for a couple of weeks. But once back on them again, symptoms were gone within 48 hours.
This was all until the beginning of February when I had surgery to remove a haemorrhoid. This then resulted in an infection (joy!) which required antibiotics, 7 days worth of amoxicillin and metronidazole to be precise. A week after these finished, some symptoms returned, and have remained. The diarrhea is kept under control, just, but blood and mucus are all present. The gastroenterologist's next move is to put me on foam enema steroids and if necessary, although he's reluctant, oral steroids.
So, now that you've had my UC life story, my queries were -
1. Has anyone had any issues with antibiotics similar to mine that have resulted in previously working meds stopping working.
2. Any issues with meds just stopping being as effective (in case the proximity of this to the antibiotics is a coincidence).
Many Thanks
