ended up in urgent care - help please

I started tapering pred from 20 to 10 yesterday. I also got my first B-we shot. I woke up this morming feeling like an elephan was sitting on my chest, pain, pressure into my chest, neck area.

Waited a little while, went to urgent care. They did an EKG (normal), oxygen level was 98 - blood pressure was 156-96. My BP has been running high since pred, usually runs 120-70...

The dr I saw wants me to up my prilosic to 2 a day for 3 days, and take mylanta liquid 3x a day for three days (espho spasm)? And also put me on Topol (blood pressure med) for at least 2 weeks while I finish pred.

I have a call into the gastro dept to make sure that I should take everything this dr. Ordered.

Has anyone had similar reactions?

Slow down with your wean - that's too big of a jump. Have you been on pred for a while? Adrenal issue? Withdrawal? I wouldn't follow a dr that says to wean like that - in general you're asking for trouble.

I don't think its a panic attack. But who knows? I was on 40 mgs for 9 days, then 20 for 9, 10 gs (starting yesterday for 5, then 5 for 8 days?

Are these symptoms of tapering too fast? I've never been on pred before...

I wonder how yout GI told you its not taper, may not really be but still from my experience you go down by 10 UNTIL 20mg and then you taper by 5mg or even 2.5mg.

Honestly, I do not see connection between B12 shot and your symptoms. When you see him next time, I will be glad if you could discuss this issue with him so that we learn what he was/is thinking, that B12 got you at this point.

Whats your BP like (that he is asking you take a BP med). Do YOU have those records? I never rely on their records and have my own (I check once a week or when I get migraines).

And BTW, Align is useless, you are wasting your money. Take a look at Benebiotics.

I don't know anything about the b shots but I do know that while on pred I had some chest tightness/pain. When I was tapering I went down by 10 till I got to 20mg and then went down 5 after that for 10 days to 2 weeks before going down another 5. Others here need to go even slower. I just wanted off of the stuff and the second time I took it my symptoms didn't all go away from it anyways so why continue to take it. I refused to take it until they did. But thats just me.

cmcd, i think your symptoms are from the fast taper, too. when i got below 20, i was developed costochondritis. i kind of feels like you are getting stabbed in your chest and the sword is coming out from your back (at least that's what it feels like to me). i thought i was having a heart attack at first, but my doctor did an xray to confirm the inflammation.

i'd go to 15 mg if i were you since it seems 10 mg was too big of a difference.
