Graduating as a Mechanical Engineer in about a month. Already have work set up as a Project Engineer. Design oil and gas stuff basically.

Husband and I own a karate school. I do the office part though and can do some from home. Def. helps esp. w/ a kid!

Husband has own CPA/financial planning business which I help out with part time. My main job is raising my two boys which is harder than any job I have ever done!

ByeByeUC.. Amen to that.. being a mom is harder then any work Ive ever done and Ive managed lotsa people ,worked 80 hour weeks.. But being a mom to two young children has kicked my @ss!

I was going to say the same thing IAS.

Some of the jobs seem like they are good for those with UC others not so much! :/

I can only imagine how difficult raising children can be from the perspective of helping my mother-in-law raise her daughter. I babysit a lot for them.

Many of us have been successful even with this awful disease. Just goes to show ya that it can be overcome. Just makes for a bit more of a challenge at times.

It's always with you, just like an annoying relative you can't get out of your house! But it doesn't mean you can't live out your dreams. Just takes a bit of resourcefulness.

Definitely C_G_K! I have had moment of my life where I spent it in the hospital and in my bed at home, doing nothing but trying to recover. Luckily this recent bout of D and blood I was able to overcome without a hospital visit, which made me happy!

Sometimes I just feel bad for those individuals that have to stand up constantly (ie retail job) and hope to not have an accident during work. Then there are also those moments that you do have an accident and hope that your employer isn't a douche about it. But you have to be able to make the best of your disease when at your worst. I guess that makes us stronger than healthy people! :D

Teach Yoga, Health Coach , and some real estate and internet marketing as well.

For those who work on your own/consultant/own business with spouse - what do you do for health insurance? I'm currently on cobra but will need to find an alternative before it runs out

GuardBummer how are you able to be a pilot with UC? Both the EASA and FAA health guidelines both explicitly state that if you have Ulcerative Colitis then you are disqualified from obtaining Class 1, Class 2 and LAPL licences. Not trying to be rude, just genuinely curious as I'd like to fly one day.

I dont know where you think that it "explicitly states" that, but you are mistaken. It's called a Special Issuance and it is actually relatively common.

To answer your question, I am a military pilot. I am grounded until I get a waiver for my mild case of UC (probably 3-6 months).

Doing my dissertation on pilot incapacitation and I guess all the reading got me confused between EASA and FAA guidelines! Was in the Royal Air Force contingent at my high school for 3 years and they always told me it was unlikely that I'd be allowed to fly. Thanks for the links, gives me hope that I might be able to become a pilot one day in the US despite UC.

Technical consultant for a paint manufacturer. before i got UC i was in the fitness field as a personal trainer i would love to still do that job but i dont trust my gut :-(

I work in IT. I'm quite fortunate that I have easy access to a nice, big toilet that no-one else uses, so as long as that remains the case, my UC shouldn't be a hindrance to my employment. My work are relatively understanding as well, which might not be the case for a lot of people.

beachlife, since I am 22 I am still under my father's insurance because of school. I have heard of Cobra but I believe they are a bit too expensive for my taste but I may be wrong. What I know of it is from my late mother's job.

I will look into Horizon Blue Cross because I have it and I am happy with it. There is one more that was a bit iffy but my mother had it when she was still alive and it was OK. A little pain when they did not want to cover something but it worked.

COBRA is the name given to continuing your employer's insurance after you are no longer employed. While employed the employer usually subsidizes the premium so you don't have to pay the whole amount. Once you have left your employer they no longer subsidize the premium anymore but you are allowed to stay on that very same insurance as long as you pay 100% of the premium that the employer would have paid. COBRA can last up to 18 months.

Cell and molecular biology PhD student. I'm required to teach, which is great because I want to be a college professor, but not great when I have urgency in the middle of a lesson. Which happened again today--ugh!

It's a relief that my schedule is so flexible as a graduate student, although I am very behind in my research due to how fatigued and sick I've been. It'll probably take me an additional year to finish (so like ... another 5 years instead of 4). Oh well!

I work in post-production broadcast television and film. Love it. There is plenty of room to grow, they treat me really well and probably one of the only places in a film/television environment where I have sick days, benefits, vacation days, etc.
