hello all,

I am at the end of my rope here...pain in my ribs, just blood and clear mucus coming out and waking me up multiple times through out the night...take ALOE,VSL 3DS, 3 ASACOL HD 2x a day and BIFRA RX IRON...NOTHING IS WORKING and i cant stand not being able to leave the house without running in the woods to poop...is it just time for surgery...I have a kid on the way and I run my own business...I dont know how i would deal with current situation or with healing up from a surgery...any thoughts?

So what happened to using rectal mesalamine? Did you quit remicade? How pregnant are you? Why are you taking aloe and what is DSL 3DS?

Have you tried immunosuppressants (like 6mp or Imuran), have you tried biologics (like Humira or Remicade)? You mention only Asacol HD. I would try the other meds I mention before jumping on the surgery bandwagon.

tried Remicade for 5 treatments and it did nothing at all...rectal meds are up and down...i am not pregnant my wife is...

What about trying Uceris? Some here have good results when other things were not working.

Sorry remi didn't work out for you. Gotta say, though, rectal bleeding and mucous IMO is a direct call for mesalamine enemas.

Don't know your history but is it possible the aloe, VSL, or other things you are taking are actually making you worse? I can see the Aloe helping or hurting. Same with the VSL. It's also possible you are intolerant to the Asacol. Have you made any dietary changes, particularly lactose?

To be blunt, your posts are not very informative. Please be specific when you post. You didn't answer what kazbern asked, what is DSL 3DS?

If you are waking up in the middle of the night, get help from Bentyl. I use almost every night otherwise I simply can not sleep. I HATE to get up in the middle of the night. 20mg should do the job. I am in flare since Nov 2012 and lately started using Bentyl on regular basis to avoid restroom visits.

If you are going to stick to steroid enema, then it will take at least 2 months before you see improvement in flare. You have to be religious in enemas. It 'additional' PITA but if you want to avoid systemic side effects of Pred, this is good way to go. How about adding an immunosuppresor? Azathioprine? In addition to that, may be you should consider mesalamine enema. Steroid enema in the afternoon and mesalamine enema in the night. (You need only an hour for steroid enema to get absorbed.)

How much do you weigh? You are on statins, do you supplement with CO Q10? If not, you should. Hows your diet? 27 + statin does not send a great signal to me. If you click around this forum, majority of us watch our food. If you are not doing so, may be you should.
