Hi, I started on a 3 day once a day cipro for suspected uci. Nervous I started taking it without getting confirmed lab results,they take 2 days. From urine sample check at clinic Doctor said she was almost positive thats what I have. Should I have waited to start the antibiotics until I received the lab results. Never been on cipro before, Symptoms are a constant urge to urinate ,even aftet I just peed ,no pain. Only took the one dose should I continue? By the time I get the results,antibiotics will be finished.  Thanks

Cipro is what I take for a UTI. After my diagnosis, I talked to my GI about antibiotics that don't cause more UC symptoms just in case of a UTI and he wrote me a preemptive RX. I would advise you to take the Cipro - UTIs are agony - your constant need to urinate is the infection, not the drugs. You'll feel better soon.

Yes, get rid of that UTI! Damage control the Cipro with probiotics.

Most natural remedies don't work once you have a full blown UTI, but you can try cranberry or baking soda at the first tingling. Both of these may affect your UC as well.

I had horrible joint pain and weakness from Cipro, my GI considers me allergic to it due to my side effects. However, it didn't worsen my UC flare (but certainly didn't help things either). I hope it works for you!!

dmannose is very good for utis, you can buy it at a healthfood store. im not weighing in on if you should take abx, only that dmannose is very effective

I would look into the side effects of cipro before taking it.

It has caused irreversible damage to many people.

well, i took the one dose than I went on the internet and scared the sh-t out of me. I will not take the other 2 doses.I will wait for the results and than I will ask for a different antibiotic,neither the doctor or pharmacist mentioned any side effects.and I asked

I took about 5 courses of Cipro after my kidney stone removal. It was fine, did not put me in flare.

Those who are complaining about Cipro, AFAIK, there is not a single medication that we use comes without any side effect. And the way side effects are listed, according to the law, if a single person reports any side effect (in millions) that should be reported on the label (to cover pharma company's posterior). I would more listen to the pharmacist and the doctor.

I can't take Cipro or Bactrim for UTI's. Cipro kills my gut and Bactrim has Sulfa (which I'm allergic to). I've had good success with Macrobid. I've had approximately 20 UTI's in my life and they are no fun. If they aren't treated quickly enough it can spread to your kidneys and trust me, you don't want that! So whatever you end up taking, make sure you take the full course to prevent relapse. I too also increase my probiotics when I'm on any antibiotic to prevent gut upset.

Well,it turned out I didn't hav e an uti after all,culture negative.

Glad I didn't continue with the antibiotic.

I am experiencing extreme nausea for 5 days now,no dearrhea.I even broke my 2 year scdiet with pizza without topping to try to seddle my nausea,didn't work!
