Exciting that at least it shows it may help some. If I read that right though that's a pretty slim chance of it working (33%) remission rate after 1 week - but at the same that's pretty darn good as one week is a short time frame so it would appear to be fast acting for those that it does help. I can't seem to find the full study or paper.

I'm curious what the difference is between "clinical response" and "remission". Or more so, really what the symptoms were in the "clinical response group" (like less blood, less medication requirements etc) as this was a high percentage group... So it would appear to be doing something positive.

In any case it's exciting in a lot of ways. Funny how it somewhat mimics the results of the home fecal transplant people on here rough percentage wise.

Canada Mark - clinical response was defined as a redcution in PUCAI scores by 15 or more points, I believe. Remission was defined as overall PUCAI score indicative of remission which is less than 15 total score.

I take this to mean that 1 week of FMT was good for some UC patients. For the rest, probably (hopefully, presumably) greater quantity of FMT would bring about remission. Basically, its an encouraging first study, and indicates the study ought to be expanded. I just wish we didn't have to wait so long for the next phase of this work (those of us wanting healing can be rather impatient about it).

Thanks Formyson. I see that now right in there upon reading it again. In that case 78% had some pretty decent positive response. Very cool. Looks like a great approach for the younger (and hopefully the older as well), especially as an alternative to biologics- It kills me inside every time I come across a post from someone new asking about how to help their 6 or 7 year old child with UC and high school students asking how to get through the day etc. I can't imagine being that age and having to deal with this. It's not fair.

Will be very interesting to see the results of some of the new studies on this with adults and long time sufferers.

Very promising.

2/3 having significant improvement or complete remission after 1 month is excellent news. I doubt it would be considered statistically significant with only 9 patients enrolled but will justify further study.

Holy cow, what other treatment can put you in full remission after only 1 week!! With no serious side effects.

This is great especially since according to Barody it takes many months to reach remission (if it works obvioiusly). Also, this is just one FT protocol - a longer term protocol with enemas for weeks/months at home might have even better results.

You have to remember Banana had a bad reaction to FT,and at least one other person on here.

What other treatment can put you into remission in one week with low to no side effects,you ask. No/low side effects as reported in this case study.

Camostat:Protease inhibitor,we might be digesting our own colon.

OM did you figure out if the digestive enzyme protease is the problem or is the bacteria protease or what?

I'm curious because my son takes a digestive enzyme that contain a lot of protease.

Probably both,but also include mast cells and other inflammatory cells.

chicagobulls: No offense taken,nothing I do from any of my resesrch works for me. I just report possibles from whatever I can find that might work,just goes to show that perhaps much of
the research is useless.
That being said,if you can get a doc to prescribe camostat,it might be worth a shot. The results are from a two person case study,
perhaps it only works in japan. But it is hard for me to believe that this disease cannot be beat. I could not save my sons colon,still trying to save mine.

I am driven to solve this crap before it gets me,or worse yet my grandchildren,my son who lost his colon has one on the way,scares the crap out of me.

As you may have guessed I am looking for a cure, and really looking for the basic cause,the cause is something that happened prior to abut 1920 or so.

Trying to figure out a possibly multifactorial disease,a bit difficult.

You can probably eliminate,based on the timeline,most industrial chemicals,antibiotics,GMO veggies,pesticides,but that leaves a many many other possible causes. Unless of course UC of today is caused by modern living and is somewhat different than it was back 90 plus years ago.

OM,

I think what you're doing is admirable. Being someone who has worked in a lab studying how stem cells can be used to treat diabetes, I understand that research is a long, arduous, process, with little immediate payback. The fact that you're actually trying to figure this condition out is great, and hopefully not misguided.

Ideally, you or someone else will get to the bottom of this. I've been in pain and am feeling depressed lately, that's the main reason why I said what I said. I've been on uceris for 5 days and have seen no improvement.

I have no idea how you've lived so long with this disease, though. My condition is mild/moderate, yet still drastically affects the quality of my life, and I can't tell you how sick I am of dealing with my discomforts. I'm a college student about to graduate, and am trying to enjoy my last weeks here, but it's hard (I've been flaring all year). I don't really see a light at the end of the tunnel in regards to this condition. I have such little agency with it all...I'm sure this is something we can all relate to.

is there anyway you could get camostat prescribed?

Sorry you are afflicted with UC, I feel your pain.
I have no idea, show the doc the article,and beg.
Some doc's may go off label,but don't get your hopes up.
Too much chance for a lawsuit,then if the FDA finds out they could be in big trouble.

Of course another option is the FT from a healthy donor you might know,we know it works in some people,while it may cause others to get really sick.
