I feel that I can get the best answers from everyone here than I would on Google Doctor and Yahoo Doctor. Did your wisdom teeth grow in or did you get them removed? What was the reason? Were they impacted, not enough room, didn't grow out, etc? Were you flaring at the moment?

I'm not flaring currently thank glob (Adventure Time reference if anyone watches that silly show). But my wisdom teeth are growing in and it's hurting like a MF! Top right molar grew in, no problem since I had space from another tooth removal. I have yet to see or feel bottom right molar. Top and bottom left are both growing in at the same time and are slightly crooked. Not sure if they are going to be impacted but I will be going to the dentist this week to be sure. I'm about to make a warm salt gargle to ease the pain and any infection, which I am assuming I have because of the chills and it's 70 degrees here in NJ.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed before I was diagnosed with UC. I got the top two taken out the day I was complaining about them since they weren't impacted, they were very easy for the dentist to pull out. The bottom two I waited months to get taken out just because of school and other personal things. I shouldn't have waited, both were impacted and left craters for about two weeks in my mouth. The surgeon had to saw his down to the teeth to get them out! There was smoke coming out of my mouth, it was intense. I was awake for both procedures, only had local anesthesia. I think you should get them removed whenever possible before things get complicated.

My son was in the recovering phase of a flare when he had his bottom 2 wisdom teeth out just before he turned 18. They were impacted.

The things we did different for him based on UC, was upped his weaning dose of prednisone a bit instead of one of the steroid packs they usually give patients and we agreed on a lower dose, shorter course of antibiotics (cleared the type with his GI).

All went well. He loved the drugs they used for the procedure much better that the ones they used for the colonoscopy he had had a few weeks before that.

I think he will likely have to have his top two out this summer. The dentist says they can be removed by him instead of oral surgeon. He also said the upper are easier to remove and heal. Bottoms are more prone to dry sockets.

Thank you for the information. I'm somewhat scared of having them surgically removed so I'm hoping the pain is just from them coming in. I will give them a week which is 5 days from today. Prior to this, I've had no problems with them coming in.

i had them removed before i was diagnosed with UC. it was a tough time for me. the oral surgeon ended up leaving some bone in where i was stitched up. i woke up a week later on a sunday morning and my face was beyond swollen and so painful. he ended up coming in on a sunday and reopening my gums and pus and blood started oozing everywhere. apparently, it was really infected and then i need antibiotics. i was given lorazapam and vicadin for 2 weeks for the pain i think. i only had 3 wisdom teeth and none were impacted- they were just making my teeth really crooked and after years of braces, i didn't wanna have ugly teeth again.

i'd get them out sooner rather than later.

Heya, I'm a dental nurse training to become a hygienist who also has UC. It's common for wisdom teeth to never erupt at all or to be impacted or to partially erupt causing pain and inflammation under the gum where food debris can get caught. I personally haven't had my wisdom teeth through yet so don't understand the pain your going through with them being possibly impacted. However many of my patients tell me it's the worst and are relieved to get them out. (fingers crossed they won't give me any jip). But having UC shouldn't effect them being extracted in slightest if thats what you and your dentist believe is best. Apart from what keylime said, that patients who are taking steroids are sometimes asked by dentist to double their dose on the day of "surgery" to help body cope with stress. It's important to give dentist your full medical history and they can make an informed decision if extraction is best for you. It's a simple procedure I've seen hundreds of times now.

My top two came in and my bottom two did not. They were pointed forward. They were all four taken out on the same day, about a year BUC.

It was not that bad, but it really did take six whole months for my jaw to heal completely.

I had my wisdom teeth taken out when I was in high school pre UC. I do recall it was not a whole lot of fun....

My son does not have UC but he had all 4 removed last Thursday. Immediately after, he was telling everybody to go get it done...the drugs were awesome! Later he changed his mind! LOL.

I had mine taken out by an oral surgeon (waaayyy before UC). I was 21 and they were impacted. I woke up a couple of times during surgery due to some tugging, but it wasn't painful. I had it done in the oral surgeon's office. Mine weren't growing sideways or anything so there was no heaving drilling into the jaw.

I remember trying to go into Kroger with my dad immediately afterward. When we were in the check-out line I told him I had to go back to the car because the drug hangover was about to hit and I was going to fall over right there! I went home and pretty much slept the rest of the day/night.

I wasn't in alot of pain. I didn't have any strong painkillers that I can remember. Irrigating them afterward was kind of annoying (you have to irrigate them to make sure no foods get stuck and you don't get "dry socket"). I had braces as a teenager and I found those more irritating/uncomfortable than the wisdom teeth removal. Maybe I'm just weird.

I insisted I go to Walgreens with DH. He has a picture of me sitting in the pharmacy chairs with my ice pack head weap. I have no memory of this at all!

I had them out when I was 18. All 4 at once in the dentist's office, just regular freezing. Believe me, I am a dental phobe, beyond the normal fear of dental work. I wanted to be put under, but my dentist explained the risks vs the benefits, and I ended up opting for just sitting in the chair. It was a total breeze! Mind you, they were not impacted. They were taken out because there would not have been enough room. My teeth were always a bit squished as it was.

For me, the wisdom teeth removal was wayyyyy easier than just a "regular" filling. I get totally freaked during fillings and have to have nitrous oxide and 3 x the freezing.

My lower left was impacted, the lower right never came in. I had the lower left removed via dentist office..ugh!

The upper two were going to be coming in and I had them removed by a dental surgeon before they broke through.

I cannot imagine having more teeth back there....lol.
