My doctor is thinking about
putting me on this drug... just wanted to see if anyone has used it and what you thought about
it.... I had to get my white cell blood count done first so it might be a week or so before I start
Thanks

I've just started taking it (day 7). My understanding is that it suppresses the immune system, which is attacking my colon. I am adding it to Uceris and Apriso to try to get into remission.
The drug comes with some pretty hefty possible side effects like hepatitis and pancreatitis, so just keep a close watch. Also, my Dr. said it would take 6-8 weeks to start seeing a difference.
At this point, although I like my Dr. very much, I am going to get a second opinion just to be sure about
the process.
I'll keep you updated on how it all goes.

There have been a number of recent threads on Imuran or 6mp lately. I've been taking it myself since the end of January 2013 with no side effects. I posted my thoughts on it as a response to the following recent thread on this topic:

I was on it several years ago and achieved semi-remission. I laid it off when it lost its effectiveness. Now I'm back on it hoping for a second chance.

i've been on immuran for a few years. tried coming off once and started bleeding again. hoping to come off it this year. It seems to be helping, not sure how bad I'd be without it at this point. I have stayed out of the hospital while on it!

Also, i have not had any of the negative side affects. I maybe a little quicker to get a sinus infection, but usually get my flu shot and stay on par with my non-immune suppressed friends and family.

My only side effect from 6mp was when I was on it and pred at the same time and got shingles on my head. Not fun.
Haven't gotten more colds or anything. Even when I get sinus infections I don't get an antibiotic because I am too afraid of the consequences, so I've been happy thus far.
