Welcome to the forum.
Harry, you bring up some good points.
But in my experience docs like to push: 1) big pharma drugs which come with alot of side effects and lots of $$$ and 2) surgery.
It's rare you can find a doc who will actually suggest diet modification, probiotics - both of which are important.
Harry, have you ever heard of LDN, low dose naltrexone?
It's not a big pharma drug, has almost no side effects, and it put me in remission. Yet it's hardly prescribed - because big pharma can't make money on it. You'd need to get it prescribed through a holistic type doc. BTW, if you are interested in LDN, there's a post on the UC resources page about it.
And then there are great supplements which help too: slippery elm powder, l-glutamine amino acid powder, and vitamin d3 ( if your blood levels show you are in need).
Anyway, if you are interested in going in a more natural route, there are things IMO that you can control, which will have a direct impact on your disease, the symptoms you experience and their severity.
I was able to control my UC into remission through various supplements, probiotics, diet modification, and LDN , low dose naltrexone.
For more info on the protocol which has put me into remission, please go to this link: https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=38&m=1666318 , and look at the 11th post.
I hope you feel better and let us know how we can help you.
