Could this pain be...healing?

I am having pain in my left side...I can only assume it's the colitis since nobody has punched me lately.

This is not a cramp, nor a stab.  I am way more familiar with those sensations than I want to be (as I'm sure you are) This is more achey, like a bruised feeling.

My momma always said that healing injuries cause pain and itch...I can only hope!

In my 6th week of the worst flare/C diff infection of my life.  Colonoscopy coming this Friday.

Usually the pains I feel are more like a large pressure inside my stomach. I don't know if this pain means healing, especially since this is a disease and not an injury, but if it helps you to think that, then go for it!

Pains are different depending on the activeness of your colitis. Hopefully the colonoscopy will show the areas of issues and can be treated accordingly to help your pain. The pain your describing sounds very common with a bit of active UC. I would not worry about it, but I would just tell your doctor if it worsen to a certain degree. Good luck on Friday!

geeker what meds are you on?

When I started 60 mg pred and switched to Uceris I had the weirdest cramps but it wasn't the flare. It was healing. Some here say you get worse before you get better. It was true in my case.

There are so many different kinds of pain however that it's hard to tell which one you're going through. Mine was constant I knew I still had some inflammation.

Now everything seems to be healed I have normal bm's and no symptoms. The pain went away.

Andrina: I am not on any rx meds for the UC. I was on Asacol and Rowasa, but they were causing the cramping to worsen so I quit them. I just finished a 10 day course of vancomycin for the C diff.

I'm taking l-glutamine and probiotics. I haven't had a formed stool in 1.5 months. I know I am anemic from the blood loss...I get a specific type of headache from anemia.

I called my GI's office BEGGING for some steroidsto help stop the bleeding...he refused (IDK if pred is contrindicated when there is C diff)

Anyway, I am so ready to be on the upswing. There were days I thought I might die...problem is that I really didn't care if I did or not.

What? Something doesn't sound right here...how can you not be on any meds? This is what GIs are for! Besides ive heard they can give you pred after/with the vancomycin.
Seriously get a second opinion, maybe someone else can chime in on this?

What more can I say?  The mesalamines were cuasing sever cramping so I quit taking them.  Who knows if they ever did anything for me anyway?  I got vanco for the C diff.  Doc is scoping me Friday.  Refused pred Rx.  So...here I am, flaring away, slowly bleeding to death.

Really depends where. Sometimes it is healing. IE Pain from formed stool going though the intestine when you're body is used to having D.

Well if you're really flaring in addition to your c diff you could have your GI prescribe you pred/uceris. There are many other maintenance drugs out there. If he is refusing to give you meds I would seriously think about a second opinion. I wonder if you can sue him I heard in America you can sue everyone for everything :D I'm just kidding. But your health is important and he should know that. I hope you only have c diff and once that's taken care of you have some peace.

I agree with Madcat, I couldn't have said it better. I just didn't think about that :-)

I hope you will get a second opinion and get better soon.

There is a different type of Rowasa you could try that is sulphite-free (or sulfa-free, I can never remember) called "Rowasa-sf". Enemas are your best choice for helping bleeding. Another choice is a steroid enema (budesonide I think) which does not go into your bloodstream the same way oral prednisone does so your doctor may approve.

People here have also done enemas like Vitamin E and other types but try the tested stuff first and see if you can get the bleeding stopped.
