My experience with UC.

Hello Everyone.

My Ulcerative Colitis began developing 2 weeks before I lived in China for 8 months. At that time I was didn't smoke, didn't drink, I biked at least 20 miles a week. The only water I drank was bottled water. My diet mostly consisted of Eggs, tomato, rice and potatoes mostly due to the fact that I didn't want to make any big food commitments since I was moving, I was a vegetarian for over 3 years at that time. I was very stressed out because I was quitting my job and getting rid of all my possessions.

My first blood happened in Los angelas Airport 5 hours before my flight took off. I went to China with this condition anyways.

I went to a few doctors at first, but I wasn't diagnosed with UC until my third week in. I played the medical game over there with no insurance which costed about 100 dollars for a colonoscopy. about 1.5 months in I did the traditional Chinese medicine and made very subtle improvements. It wasn't until I started eating as much as possible that it started to work at all. I was skin and bones by 2 months in before I started a slight recovery.

I went to a new hospital and they did a whole bunch of stuff beaming a red light at my stomach and electrocuting my stomach as well. I got a lot of medicine from them and the only english name on any of it was called Sodium Biocarbonate which was used to give me injections with another medicine.

The injections lasted for 10 days and by the end I was going to the rest room once every 30 hours and all crap was shaped. They took me off the injections and over the next 20 days my condition slowly began to worsen and I started bleeding again.

That is when I started researching good diets and I ate as many green plants as possible but recovery was still slow. By 4 months in I was still on all the medicine the doctors gave me and did the red light and electro therapy thing to my stomach. But I planned to go to Disney land with my Girl friend on the 25th of Dec. and I ate took some Baking soda 2 hours before breakfast and 2 hours past dinner for a few days and it cleared up all my diarrhea while I was on that vacation.

A few weeks later I decided that I wasn't going to take the medicine anymore and I was going to recover with baking soda and eating green things. It worked but when I stopped, diarrhea was always slowly returning getting worse and worse every day.

I always drank bottled water while I was in China btw.

For the Chinese new year I spent 18 days in the mountains. All of the food here was freshly picked from the fields with no pesticides. Pork was home grown with no steroids or growth hormones. The meat was very delicious and was certainly on questionable scales as it hung on a hook for the entire time I was there. It had been cured and smoke to preserve it for up to a year. The water was well water grabbed from stone wells in the earth. Its interesting to note that my ulcerative colitis was non existent in this environment. For 18 days I apparently had every I needed to heal and recover in the Chinese country side.

After I got back to the city where I have to wash pesticide from the vegetables before I eat. Diahhrea slowly crept back into my bowels.

I think my experience is unique. I was went to a place modern advances are not necessary and had no issues with my health even though I ate left over food that sat out unrefrigerated for 3 days long before it went to the pig.

My conclusion in the things that play roles in the development of UC has more to do with nutritious foods filled with chemicals.

What exists in the City that did not exist the country is

Growth Hormones/ Steriods and antibiotics in the meat.
Pesticides in the plants.
Premature picking of unripened plants(so they had less nutritious value)
Treated city water/Bottled water leaches BPA into the water.

My thinking is if I eliminate these things from my diet here in America. Can I live a normal life here like in China's country side?

Could be, I am just going start trying to eliminate one thing in that final list at a time. I will start with bottled water. only 3 days after I started Drinking nothing but bottled water I got a flare up and started bleeding again.

Also I just found this link in another forum. Maybe everyone is affected a little differently by something but BPA might be a contributing factor. And if I can conclude this then I am 1 step closer to living freely.

By the way, I'm not really trying to create discussion, I am just posting my experience with this problem if it can at all help people with theirs.

I was actually drinking Fiji water from the islands of Fiji.

This is what makes Ulcerative Colitis so difficult because blaming one thing for an out break still leaves me with 3 choices to choose from. It was the bottled water that caused a flare, it was bottled water and something else that caused a flare or bottled water has nothing to do with it. Generally a persons will not wait around a week just to pin point that exact cause of a flare and they certainly are not consistent enough with their daily habits to conclude any one thing can be the cause of a flare. Ofcourse this is under the assumption that a flare is a reaction to something that has been taking place.

I decided to start with water because I concluded its my most frequently consumed product and because I know a lot of bad things are put in water.

So I purchased a water filter and stopped drinking bottled water.

Today is the least amount of blood I seen in 5 days and I had a normal shaped turd.
