Thank you for letting me know about what works well for you. It seems that the complete list of what works and what doesn't is different for everyone, but that everybody prefers to stay away from processed foods. I've been trying some elements for the last two or three weeks and I've noticed that I can't just go to the kitchen and get something (at least not something that is paleo): it almost always takes some time to prepare, since it's all raw or raw-like.
I talked to my specialist today. Because all the regular meds (Mesalazine and beclometason and combinations of the two) have had hardly any effect on my inflamed bowels, and even Prednisone hasn't worked that well, she mentioned the option of Thalidomide. Talking about a kill or cure remedy! It can have horrible side effects of which some can even be permanent (doesn't go away after you stop taking the meds).
I have said to my specialist that I do want to talk it over with the person who is doing a trial with it, but I have serious doubts about using it. In the 1,5 years I have been sick, the last weeks were the first really REALLY bad episode. So, if it only gets this bad once in a while, i'd definitely prefer to try to become healthier on some sort of diet, like paleo, before trying something as rigorous as Thalidomide. But then again, I've had a mild but non-stop inflammation for 1,5 years and it would be nice to be without blood and gore again for a bit.
So, another question to you, lovely people. Have you tried all meds before going paleo (or something similar) or have you decided on paleo before trying out all available traditional meds?
And again, thank you all so much for this. The two doctors I've seen up till now were both very dismissive of the idea that diet could be of any help for CU. The male doctor even said condescendingly 'it's not that easy, little girl'. I'm 33. It seems like the regular doctors in the Netherlands aren't very open minded about thinking outside the conventional medicine box. Such a shame. That leads to another question: how did your doctor react to the idea of going paleo? Did you make the decision together? Did he/she help?
Thanks!
