Hey guys, so I used to use Nuva ring for awhile before UC and loved it, and wondering has anyone used this or other birth control long term with UC? Noticed any issues from it? Anyone used bc with UC longer than 10 years?

I have been using the Nuvaring for the past year and have not experienced any side effects or problems from it or any effects on my UC. I love the Nuvaring, it's one less pill I have to remember to take on top of all my UC meds. I have been using birth control, either the standard pill or the ring since I was diagnosed with UC 3 years ago and have never had a problem personally (or at least a problem I could connect to bc). I can't say for longer than 3 years though.

I've been on various oral pills for seven years, including the last year since I was diagnosed with UC... I think NuvaRing is a great option because in a severe flare some people can have issues with the birth control pill not getting absorbed completely. I guess my only concern is that some people find it uncomfortable to have anything in the vagina when the rectum is inflamed, but if you feel OK then you're good to go!

Also... I used the pill to skip my period on and off before I got sick, but when I was diagnosed I said "f it" and skipped all my periods all year (by skipping the placebo pills). Honestly it was awesome. Even without UC I always had GI distress when I got my period so having the option to skip it during a flare was so great. I talked to my GYN about it and she wrote my birth control prescription to say "for continuous use", so I get a refill after 21 days instead of 28.

I take cerazette without issue and I love it. I don't have a period, once in a blue moon I will have light spotting but it's rare, and best thing about cerazette is, no estrogen. I've been taking pills for about 10 years but I've switched between different brands. I don't think any casued me UC symptoms but I've been up and down while taking BC pills. I always wondered if there is a link for me and to hormones but I don't notice anything directly impacting my condition. I switched from this pill to OrthoTri lo for a few months and things stayed the same.

The Nuvaring is my first choice and I love it <3

Even when I'm flaring I don't mind wearing it.
