Sodium Butyrate Eaters.. how's it going?

Hello I'm new here. I did a google search for butyrate and this conversation came up and not much else. i hope its not a no no to post since I dont have UC. Please inform me as I dont want to butt in. I have CFS and Lyme and Methylation issues. I am working on my CBS defect trying to decrease sulphur and ammonia and read that butyrate is a good thing to try.
Read through this thread to see if I could find an answer to my question but nope......so my question is.. I was under the impression that butyrate needed to be enteric coated for it to work the right way in the right place in your gut. Can someone clue me in on whether or not this is true? thanks very much junie

hello. i also have severe CFS and my specialist gave me butyrate. most people i have spoken to have not been helped much by it, but it has never harmed anyone that i know of. however, with me, after 2 weeks on the supplement, my condition worsened. my doctor told me to stop it. its been 10 days off now and i am still awful. i get the feeling my doctor is not sure why this happened to me. i took nutricology butyrate.

i came across this article recently, saying sodium butyrate can reactivate herpes viruses. i wonder if this is what happened because i feel so horrible :(

Yes, I posted this previously. Butyrate is a danger to those with viral pathogens. If you have a history with ebv, cold sores, any herpes virus, hep c, CMV.. Use lots of caution.

I think that For UC it's alot more important to look at enteric coating, for ammonia and methylation, I wouldn't think it would be as big of an issue. But that is solely based on my personal experience.

I've been taking it for a few weeks- no difference besides wicked bad smelling poop.

For sure! Just the NAC wasn't that bad, but NAC + butyrate produces some epic vapors.

haha yes!!!! even the capsules alone smell like farts. I feel like i'm swallowing farts every time I take them.

I thunk they smell like Parmesan.. I never have any weird or increased smell and I take a bunch of butyrate.. Weird.

I'm still taking these as part of my regimen that put me into remission over the summer. But, I'm considering dropping them.

How are people doing on them? Am I foolish to drop this one?

Personally, I wouldn't drop it completely. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I still take butyrate in remission as I rebuild my gut flora, I want to continue supporting it.
