Greetings HW,
I have had severe hair loss because of Asacol. I recently stopped the drug in late June. How long do you think it will take for my hair to start growing back? It's the only med I was on. Thank you...

I've had the same. I was told it is from malnourishment. I've been trying to have a probiotic shake twice a day, one full of fruits and one full of veggies. It seems to be starting to help.

I lost a ton of hair when I started Asacol. After about
3 months of losing, it stopped falling out and started to regrow. I think everyone's hair grows at different rates. I recently lost a bunch of hair and i notice it's starting to regrow. The hairs are very short. I think it would take years for it to catch up tot he rest of my hair.

Prednisone caused my extreme hair loss (along with a pile of other awful things)... mine began to grow back about
4 weeks after I quit taking it. I ultimately cut all my hair off & it is now like a boys cut because my hair was a joke & now at least it's all one length and healthy again.

I had a bit of hair loss from pred also.
I found the best way to get it to grown back quickly is excellent nutrition - you should consider a good natural multi vitamin (synthetic ones can cause nausea), lots of fruit and veg if you can tolerate it....

We usually start taking Asacol when we are sick. Being really sick can cause hair loss.
Mine grew back. It could be a cut in the dose from being on Asacol.
I started a diet, gluten free and high in fruits and veggies. Hair grew in twice as thick.

I had a lot of hair loss too; try a B-100 vitamin that has B-12 and also Biotin. The B-12 might give you some extra energy and the Biotin helps with hair loss. Hope this helps!

Everyone remarks about
my healthy head of hair, (maybe because I can't take meds), but people on the Crohn's forum who were losing their hair because of meds say taking extra biotin and folic acid will help. They are B vitamins, about
a milligram of folic acid and over a milligram or two of biotin, which is more than is found in most multivitamins.
They also say Nioxin shampoo helps too.

firstly...how long were you on asacol, what was your dosage, and how bad were your symptoms at least a year ago.
Were you ever on prednisone or any other meds?
Are you male or female?
How old are you?
There are many hair"growth" lines. Nioxin, Bosley, Vivagen to name a few.
I don't have hair loss, but I like the way that the Bosley shampoo/conditioner and mousse makes my hair behave and have texture.
Your hair grows at its own rate. It's whatever's interrupted the dormant stage..which is usually prolonged. Once the hair falls out, it's pushed out by a new hair.
If you have little baby hairs growing out from the scalp, you'll see improvement in about
6 months to a year.
Multi B vitamins are good, biotin...just make sure you don't overload just in case you don't need them. Overload can also cause problems.
Make sure you're washing your hair often rather than not...and remember that losing 100 - 150 hairs a day is Normal.

I had some hair loss with taking 6mp, but tribute it mostly to the stress and anxiety (have had this happen 2x now).
It'll take about
6 months before you can see some fuzzies growing out up top. My hair is super long, so when it started growing out down past my shoulder I cut it shorter because you can really tell a difference with the thickness and it's hard to control.
Good luck!
