Lialda after Asacol

I haven't been here in a while as I was feeling well. I'm assuming there have been a ton of posts about asacol discontinuing. I switched to asacol HD and it put me into a huge flare. Now I've switched to Lialda for the past three days. Doesn't seem to be helping much. I have less blood bit still have urgent diarrhea with mucus, plus new symptoms of pain in my transverse colon, and vomiting two out of three nights. Anyone else switch to Lialda? Did it work for you? How long will it take? I'm in so much pain and can't function.

I switched to balsalazide long ago from asacol. How many Lialda are you taking a day? My doc said I would want to take 4.

Hi, I've been on Delzicol, but they have switched me to Lialda as well. Not sure how it's going to work. Delzicol just managed to keep bleeding down, but not much else. I'm going on 4 years of almost continual flare. It has ruined my life to be sure. I'm sorry you're going through something similar.

Hope I can convince doctors I really need operation to stop this never ending cycle. I started Lialda today and will post if when I see any changes. Keep the faith...it's all some of us have.

I'm taking four. I feel like I'm half dead right now. Cant take care of my 19-month-old and can't work.

On3yahoo - four years flaring?? I'm so sorry! Yes this will ruin my life as well, I usually work full time plus some, but I'm an independent contractor, so no vacation pay, no sick pay, no disability insurance, nothing. I had to take this week off from work and we are really going to feel it. This morning my husband said, "Are you staying home again? I thought you got a new medication." I totally broke down because he doesn't get it. He finally got it now - he took the day off to help me with the baby do I can rest. Thank goodness. I can barely walk to the bathroom.

On3yahoo - have u tried anythong else? Pred, humira, 6mp?? I refused pred. I think I would rather have the surgery than take all those meds.

Are you still using the Rowasa nightly?

Are you taking the Lialda all at one time?

It seems you have something else going on...how often are you vomiting?

Are you taking probiotics as well?

Yes, rowasa nightly and four lialda every morning. I hsvent tsken probiotics because I took vsl3 my last flare and had pain worse than uc it was horrible. My stomach got so bloated from the probiotics that it put pressure on my lungs and I couldn't breathe. I may be feeling nauseous because I'm trying to do the scd diet and can't eat much now anyway. But the lialda has made my throat so phlegmy, maybe that's what's making me vomit?

Could be...but it could also be an allergy to something in the SCD? it has lots of fat via almond flour, etc.

The vsl in packet/powder form taken throughout the day can cause gas from what I read. You might want to consider another probiotic and take it at bedtime on an emptyish stomach only.

The other thing is to maybe split the dosage of Lialda...take 2 in the morning with breakfast and 2 at supper.

How many times a day are you having bms...or anytime needing to use the bathroom related to UC?
