Asacol becoming generic?

Hi everyone,

I believe Asacol 400 mg is losing its patent on July 31st.  Does anyone know if there will be generic forms of Asacol soon?  I hope so because it's been a money buster for me and so many others.

There has been a conspiracy to delay it. It can take 2 years to file generic paperwork with FDA. Proctor Gamble blocked all applications for plans to do generic, then they stopped making it a few months early - while keeping th epatent, and then the company that bought Proctor Gamble has ASACOL time release cranules in a casul, and they are pushing pushing pushing to get Gi and pharmacy to recommend it.

It could be 2years for the generic, and the was some flap about some chemical in the coating, so it could delay longer.

The whole thing sucks.

Don't hold your breath on generic Asacol. It ain't gonna happen any time soon, if ever. You're going to have to go with plan B.

The only thing I can tell you is that you can order it for much less from Canada. I personally switched to Lialda and I've been able to get that for $10 a month using the copay assistance they offer.

I use a Canadian Pharmacy for Asacol (Mesalamine) Locally my monthly prescription would be almost $1000.00 through the CP only $340 for three months supply and this includes shipping. I simply would not be able to afford my medication otherwise.

Peg do you get the generic 800mg? I am going to make my next order from Bigmountaindrugs.com which is where I have been getting my salofalk from. I can get 1000 of the 800mg generic for asacol for 579.00 with 10 bucks shipping. You said your paying 340.00 for 540 quantity of the 800 generic? Or?

Oh no. I'm so disheartened. Thanks for the information though. I've been waiting for generic Asacol for a long time. What a huge disappointment! I do get it from Canada because otherwise I couldn't afford it. Even getting it from Canada is pretty expensive (although NOTHING like it costs in the USA!) I use Canadadrugs.com I've never tried Bigmountaindrugs.com

Canadadrugs.com is good for me.
