Two questions: asacol and rectal inflammation

1.) There's plastics and harmful chemicals in many of the things we interact with and swallow daily. So, I don't think I'd worry about asacol. With the cost of those darn pills I'd use them all. Hard to avoid unless you go Amish or something lol.
2.) If you are consistently sore after passing a solid bm, then absolutely yes you have active inflammation in your rectum. If it is just a onetime affair then no worries as that happens to normal people without uc; just a really big dump or whatever.

I don't have any concern about the asacol that I used for 24 years, although now I'm using the generic (Canada). Which probably is the same ingredients in the coating.

Continuing Sore rectum after a bm would mean inflammation. What and where would have to be determined if it's over and above what you would usually experience if you're flaring.

I don't have a sore rectum/anus after a bm unless I'm flaring or if the external hemmie or fissure is inflamed.

I really don't believe the plastic component has been removed at all in the Delzicol. That's why they tried covering it up by putting the Asacol pill inside the capsule and renaming it. They didn't reformulate it at all (my personal opinion). But, I also don't believe that this plastic component is dangerous either. There has been no proof that it is dangerous and the FDA has not ordered manufacturers to quit using it. There have been many, many people who took this plastic component for decades and I don't believe there is even one patient who has experienced dangerous effects linked to this plastic component. As far as I know the company has not even tried claiming that they removed this dangerous plastic from the HD version.
