First dose of Remicade

Got my first dose of Remicade this morning. No adverse reactions, thank God! The RN said some people feel better after one dose, and others after several. I've read some folks' messages here that it didn't help at all and others it did.

How soon did you feel better (and stop bleeding) if you are one of those folks it helped?

I wish you luck. Never been on it myself, though a year ago the doctor insisted I had to, or else. Big scary. Hopefully all goes well for you and you don't have any side effects.

I saw minor improvements a day or so after my first dose. By the 3rd or 4th dose, definite improvements, but not really "remission". Sadly, by my 8th dose or so it was doing nothing for my active flares. It did allow me to limp through the better part of a year so I'm glad for that.

my initial reactions were unbelievably positive. noticed immediate results the same day... went from severe inflammation throughout my entire colon to solid movements within a matter of days. 3 months later, my latest infusion didn't seem to help and i'm flaring again. hopeful that my next infusion gets me back on my feet

i have a thread that was updating from time to time during the entire process, i'll see if I can dig it up

I had immediate results too after the first infusion, but it was short lived because I was in the loading stage. After the loading stages I continued to get better and better.

I've been on it for almost 2 years now and I can tell when it's wearing off. I feel almost like a windup toy at the end of its wind after 6-7 weeks post Remi. But once I get it again, I'm wound up again lol

I was in hospital and bleeding a lot when first infused.

1st dose did very little for me- symptom wise it was not noticeable, but my blood work was showing some slight improvement. So my GI team ( yes team.. by then I had about 6 docs. all weighing in on my case) opted to do the 2nd dose a week early and increase it to double strength (called a rescue dose here in Canada).

This one tipped the scales and I saw improvements in 2-3 days, no more blood but still diarrhea. Almost back to "normal" after about about 2-3 weeks later.

Doing great right now - 3months since 1st infusion, 5 infusions total, I'm on a double dose (10mg/kg) every 8 weeks.

Hope you see results soon.

As soon as I had it I could tell things had changed. The first time I had it in one afternoon and after that I didn't go to the toilet until the next day. This is after being hospitalized and going 30 times a day. It felt pretty miraculous at the time. These days when I have it during a flare it seems to take a few days to fully kick in.

I've been on it for a year, and I still can't tell if it is doing anything.

Update on my first day after first dose...
I woke up feeling okay, had a semi normal bm for the first time years! And NO BLOOD or MUCUS!!!! An hour later, the 2nd trip was little bit looser, and very tiny bit of blood. Very low pain level today. No bleeding worth mentioning, and still no mucus. I have felt good all day. (I went to the grocery store, and came home with no incidence, or urges.). What a weird feeling to not be counting the minutes until you get to the closest bathroom! I hope this will continue.

Yes, it takes some time to get used to the new found freedom when you've been timing every outing based on bathroom visits. Enjoy!
