Condition definitely worsening, Apriso to blame?

so it's hard to determine if Apriso is to blame or not but last night I flared through the entire night. On average having to use the bathroom 3 times an hour. I finally fell asleep at around 6am, but it was brutal.

I'm down 3-4 pounds over the last few days, and am definitely seeing my conditions worsen then get better. I'm thinking Apriso might be an issue as in the past Asacol HD, Pentasa, Colozal have all exacerbated my symptoms. I was hoping Apriso would be difference in that it was time release, and a much more reasonable dose. It's only been three days since taking it and I don't want to give up on it yet but I can't take more nights like this.

still waiting on the hospital to get my remicade infusion appt set up but that isn't until next week...

I tend to agree. You seem intolerant to the 5asa meds.

I wouldn't have the willpower to wait it out and see if it goes away. Stop it and see if you improve. Remicade is next week! Woohoo!

i retraced my steps of what I ate yesterday, and was thinking maybe the peanut butter clif bar contributed. i don't know, i'm wanting Apriso to be effective so bad because I feel like remicade on its own isn't enough... i felt like if I could get remicade to work like it has in the past, apriso would help extend effects and prevent me from getting into a flare.

one thing i noticed with apriso is the delivery mechanism is similar to pentasa. with pentasa i would see remnants (shells from the tiny balls of medicine). I don't really see that with apriso which tells me i am successfully breaking it all down i guess...

since i woke up i don't feel great but it's not nearly as bad as last night. i feel like my last hope is this infusion and that if i don't respond to it, i'm running out of ideas.

Hospital Infusion center called, Tuesday @ 1pm is infusion day! I'm so hopeful this gets me back on track.


whatever i was dealing with last night appears to have calmed down though, hopefully tonight is more of the same. And I did take Apriso this morning with my Uceris, but may consider cutting the dose in half and seeing what that does in the event that i have another rough night.

I've had similar issues with 5asa's. It started with Asacol and couldn't seem to get a formed BM even with no other issues, then headaches set in and I switched to Pentasa. I was on that for a while and currently take Apriso which has been doing okay up until my hospital visit last week. I'm on a 40mg pred taper and feel okay for the most part but they doubled up my Apriso dosage and every time I take them, within an hour I have pretty severe D.

I'm also getting ready to start Remicade and am hopeful for quick and long lasting relief. Good luck to you and keep us posted!

so i'm definitely feeling as though i'm getting worse. i'm flaring to the point where 10-15 minutes after eating, i get urgency and have to go. i'm thinking apriso might be the cause for the decline and don't know if i should cut the dose to 2 and see how I do or just get rid of it. i was really hopeful i could get some results but i've lost around 5 pounds in under a week and to put it blunt, this SUCKS.

alright, screw this Apriso. I'm done taking it to see if I bounce back like I did when I went off previous mesalamines

there's legitimate concern that even if the remicade infusion works on tuesday that i need another med to keep my inflammation under check and without mesalamines i don't know what my options will be. unless i can convince my GI to use uceris like a maintenance med (in the event it works). Or perhaps LDN or an increase in VSL#3DS to two packets could be it. I don't know anymore and the more I think about this the more i'm wanting a surgical consult @ Yale... Sigh

didn't take it today, wondering how long it will take to get out of my system... i assume a few days as I think that's how long it took me to start noticing some differences when i was on other mesalamines... my flare has gotten progressively worse now as I easily went 15+ times today, and it's as if I ate sandpaper because it's becoming increasingly painful. just eating/drinking seems to trigger a movement. lost another pound from yesterday. tuesday can't come soon enough, if remicade doesn't take i don't know what i'll do.

my GI mentioned some kind of virus test, not a stool sample kind though but some kind of other virus test. it's a procedure but not as involved as a colonoscopy.

it's pretty much the same, considerable pain, bleeding and urgency. tomorrow is remicade and i hope helps get me out of a flare. i think if apriso was truly making me worse it'll be a few more days to notice any difference.

i ate more yesterday and managed to curb the weight loss but i suffered because of it. i'm going back to eating less and upping my water intake today, i don't want to be ill during the infusion and will avoid that happening at any costs.

Josh. I started the Uceris a few days before you and I can say that it took a little over a week for the blood to slow down. Hang In there. I am still not right and have a lot of urgency but I think I am slightly better. Hope things start getting better for you with a few more days of the Uceris

I was put on Apriso by the first doc who diagnosed the UC.  It made the problem 1000 times worse than before he did the colonoscopy and the diagnosis.  My only sympton prior to the colonoscopy was the bleeding.  After apriso, I had constant, uncontrollable watery diar., cramps, etc.   Even after I called repeatedly, he insisted I stay on Apriso.  I did not.  Got a new doc.  She also wanted me to try Apriso, but after one week, she acknowledged it was not for me.  I probably should have informed the FDA or Apriso makers, as a warning to others, but I didn't.
