Last year, I was doing great, and then in August, with no apparent changes in anything I was doing, my symptoms crept back (blood, mucous, I tend towards C rather than D).  It took a couple of months to bring everything back to normal, and I continued doing great.  And now it's the middle of August again, and for the last couple of days, I have had more tummy grumbles than usual, starting to see mucous in my stool again.  Again, I don't think I am doing anything at all different.  Is it just coincidence, or is it something about the month of August that I'm reacting to?  I seem to remember a discussion last year in August where several others started having issues and were speculating about the time of year?

Ive been in the hospital every august since 2011 so three years in a row now! My family says the same thing- august is my cursed month.

I was in remission and guess when it stopped? August 1st!

I'm still really sick and trying to get this to stop.

Are you using any meds at all?

August...a month for crap to happen, and lots of change once Sept hits it seems. If you've had a very busy July, it could be that you've missed some symptoms of a pending flare and didn't treat it.

Some people tend to flare seasonally. My first two years I flared in December/January. The stresses of the holiday season always did it for me.

"Are you using any meds at all?" Yes I've been using Asacol HD, probiotics, and three different kinds of rectal meds! Nothing seems to be working but I'm hopeful. It is August after all! LOL

UC is my second autoimmune disease. My first one has been in remission for over 15 years and I had to cure it myself because the doctors were clueless. After years of having the disease (and several relapses every August) I discovered that I had allergies to fall pollens and molds, which I did not know about. I tried treating my allergies to "cure" my disease and in the beginning it did not work. But, after being on allergy shots for a few months, for these fall allergies, all of a sudden my disease went into remission and has not bothered me since. I still take allergy shots to this day as my treatment. I have not noticed any patterns to my UC though, but that's just me. You could be different.

Well, that's very interesting, although this has been the coolest August I can remember in many years.  It was also suggested to me that I might be reacting to some sort of seasonal pollen floating around in the air which is sending my body into inflammation mode.  I certainly don't show any hay-fever-like symptoms, but who knows.  Maybe heat, maybe pollen, maybe just weird random coincidence.

 

And no, I am not currently taking any meds.

Mold levels in the air usually start to rise this time of the year. I also am back to having issues now and it seems the year before I was fine till I hit around this time also.

So Mold is the prevelany allergy now which is in the air we breathe. Not much we can do about mold allergies..I think maybe it taxes our systems more and adds to the problems?

August has been terrible for me for two of my three years and later July in the other year. I live in a very hot area where the humidity is always 100% in warm months.

April is the one for me. My big UC flare started in April, and for about five years prior to that I had a mystery illness (all of which, in retrospect, can be traced to UC) every spring.

Yep, August is a month that affects me.
