Newly Diagnosed UC and first colonoscopy

I have just been diagnosed with UC and had a sigmoidoscopy two weeks ago. I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow and I have elected to do it without anaesthesia. I have been told to take two Xanax and two high strength Codeine/Paracetamol tablets. Has anyone else had their colonoscopy under these conditions ? I'd really appreciate anyone's feedback on the experience.

I have two reason for taking this route, I am currently without insurance and the price difference with/without is threefold. The second reason is, I have never been under anaesthesia before and would like to avoid it where possible.

I've yet to figure out my signature but I'm a 43 year old female with left sided UC. I'm taking Pentasa x 8 daily and a nightly Salofalk enema too. I was diagnosed two weeks ago.

I haven't had a scope w/o anesthesia, but I did wake up during my first one. It was pretty unpleasant (some pain) and I asked them to increase my sedation, which they did. I don't like anesthesia as it always nauseates me and wrecks my day, but it seemed worthwhile for this procedure.

There are others here who do have scopes w/o anesthesia on a regular basis. You might want to revise your post title so you can get their attention.

I haven't had one without anaesthesia either, and I did wake up during two of them and it was extremely unpleasant. However, I didn't have any of the oral meds you discussed on board at the time which I sure would be of some help. Good luck.
