So the last two days I've seen little to no blood etc and formed movements but I still have questions and concerns.

When I go, it's still very uncomfortable/painful and the results are very narrow "flat ribbon like" formed stools. My limited understanding is that this means my inflammation is limited to the rectum portion and not diffused like it has been when i was dealing with more severe symptoms. I mentioned this to my GI and asked for enemas or supps but he wanted to just keep things 'as is'.

Side note: he diagnosed me yesterday with a fissure and called in an RX, could this also be a contributing factor to the remaining side effects?

Your symptoms currently sound a lot like mine, although I just finished my 1st week of hydrocortisone enemas. What was the RX for? How did he diagnose the fissure?

i'm picking up the rx today when i start feeling a little better. i don't remember the specific name, but he said there was a numbing agent and a topical steroid that I apply with an applicator.

oh and he diagnosed *gulp* via examination *gulp*... It was NOT a good time :(

I think I might call him and tell him that you want a prescription for hydrocortisone enemas, and make it clear that you're not satisfied with things "as is" and want to try topical treatments. I know exactly what you mean in terms of the ribbon-like stool; that was as good as things got for me on Remi/6MP alone. It sounds like maybe he prescribed cortifoam (topical steroid with applicator), but I found this didn't help me nearly as much as an actual enema.

I am too much of a chicken to look up fissures, so I have no idea how that would play into your treatment.

I had one rectal exam that was entirely visual and I have to say, I will not do it again unless *I* think I need one. I'm pretty sure that someone broke the rules letting a male doctor perform the exam on a female patient without someone else in the room (with gynecological exams, male GYNs have to have a female staff member in the room to perform examinations).

The fissure is for sure causing you pain but you do have rectal inflammation that needs to be dealt with. I second the request for enemas. If he doesn't want to prescribe them than it may be time for a new GI.

yeah when he went over my last colonoscopy results (from march) he said the only part of my colon that seemed to have been spared was the ascending colon. but that was then and this is now and my understanding is that i wouldn't see solid stool if I had inflammation higher up. sigh, i'm gonna dig around the house and see what I have, i used to take some of the enema's/suppositories. If I respond favorably, I'll call him.

honestly my GI is good, he's definitely gotten me closer to remission and even in short term remission than my first GI. he's let me call the shots, but he seemed to think the fissure meds would help i guess. i'll definitely call him though, since I would much rather do an enema than prednisone

update: went through my stash of meds and i have canasa suppositories, colocort (6 bottles) and mesalamine enemas.

i'm thinking of doing the colocort tonight since I have shown that I seem to be mesalamine intolerant.

ok the medicine he called in and I picked up is called HC Pramoxine. i don't know if I should give that a few days before i incorporate the colocort or not...

I looked up fissures (I feel like I should get bravery points; I have no idea why I find this kind of stuff so squicky when I can talk for hours about poop). I'd guess it would be contributing to pain while going to the bathroom, but I don't see how it would really do much to contribute to the way your stools are formed. Are you still having a lot of BMs? Any cramping/urgency?

frequency is down (2-4 times a day), urgency is better but not great. but it still hurts to go which I think is a combination between the fissure and the UC affecting my lower parts.... the inflammation is the root cause for the way the stools are formed though. i'll try the hc pramoxine as it has hydrocortisone in it which can help reduce inflammation and see how I do tomorrow AM

and yes you get points, I barely want to look it up myself...

I was diagnosed with a fissure and hemmies about 3 weeks ago. They gave me the hydro praxomine as well. I had to get a refill. Doing 2-3 times a day and I have to say there is a lot of improvement. You should also try calmoseptine. Another user on here raved about it and I have to say its awesome. I think it's helping everything heal in that area. You can get it on amazon or at Walgreens. Really worth it.
