Paracetamol (Tylenol) - anyone else find difficulties with it?

It dawned on me when I found small amounts of b&m at times when they were not generally present that it seemed to be the day after I took a paracetamol (this is a rare thing for me, maybe once every 6 months or so). Every medic I have spoken to tell me that this cannot be possible, that paracetamol could not irritate the digestive tract. In the last week, due to some nasty, unexplained chest pains, I have taken a few and I have noticed tiny amounts of b&m when generally colon is doing well. I have though taken less mesalazine this week as couldn't manoeuvre to get the enemas in with the pain so aware it could be this too.

Was just wondering if anyone else gets an unusual reaction to paracetamol?

Doesn't sound likely. I'd be more apt to suspect perhaps fillers in the Tylenol, perhaps you could try switching preparations (like between gel caps and tablets, etc). In any case, skipping mesalamine sounds far more likely to cause problems.

I have been doing some reading on how paracetamol works and saw that when there is overdose, shots of glutathione can be given because paracetamol depletes it (and read about cystine as antidote too). I've come across glutathione quite a bit in reading about colitis recently and could easily be short of it - it might explain why fermented sauerkraut is really helping me because of the glutamine content, one of the precursors of glutathione. Have decided to order the 23andme DNA testing kit to see if I can work out from it if I might be lacking the gene that helps in glutathione re-uptake. Seems pretty far off the scale chance I know that there could be such a quick reaction from small doses of the stuff but am going to research....Meanwhile, no blood this morning, no paracetamol taken but also had upped Lialda past few days so could well be that helping. Wasn't going to take the chance of experimentation when been doing so well

Could anyone tell me, what is the downside or negative with ibuprofen ? Is it a no go with UC? I've always found it the only headache tablet to work for me and I get headaches weekly.

Among other reasons...headaches are a classic symptom of dehydration and constipation so do keep an eye on that. Also of course eye strain, poor posture. For women they can be hormone related too.
