Colazal and Apriso together

Does anyone take these two drugs together with success?

I think you'll not know which one works for you or which one you may be sensitive to...so don't mix them.

I would not advise you to take them concurrently! Oral 5-ASA meds tend to dehydrate the body-- so better not overdose. Colazal mainly treats left-sided UC so if you have pancolitis, you're likely to do better on Asacol, Lialda, or Pentasa. Apriso is really designed for maintenance of remission. / Old Hat (33 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I was always on colazal and had a mini flare. Doc didn't want to put me on steroids (and I agree) so he added apriso to help get me out of the flare. I seem to be ok now but when I called for my checkup he says to keep taking what I'm taking. 4 apriso morning then my normal 3 3x a day colazal. Blah hate taking All these pills but if it helps.

Amazing that you have tolerated such high 5-ASA dosing! I know that my gastro has added Xifaxan temporarily to a UC patient's 3 x 3 Colazal daily dosing to get her out of a mini-flare because it's a non-systemic G/I drug, but haven't heard about pairing oral 5-ASAs. Good luck, it sounds like you may be pioneering a new approach. / Old Hat (32 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Yea 5-ASA's have never seem to bother me at all which he said was really good because he doesn't want to put me on steroids until its necessary.

I've been thinking lately of the possibility of combining two different oral mesalamines. The doctor should be part of this decision. I think it might actually be a good idea but I wouldn't take more than 4.8 grams total combined dosage. It would probably not work out with the insurance companies though.

I'm doing 4/day of Apriso and 6/day of Balsalazide Disodium (basically generic Colazal) and have no problem with insurance, though granted it's not the same as two strict Mesalamines. I just ended a round of prednisone so not sure how it's working yet.

Am curious since through searching this seems like a sort of novel approach. I'm sort of out of options until vedozlimab is approved so hoping this keeps me ok for a while.
