Switched from Asacol HD to Lialda a month ago.

Have had problems since switching.

I've had to go to the bathroom more often. Used to go about 2-3 times a day on Asacol HD, now I'm going 5-6 on Lialda. I'm also a lot more tired on Lialda and I feel like I'm losing hair.

I just went to the bathroom right now and I saw a lot of blood. I'm so scared that I might have a flare up again. School just started. This is terrible.

Anyone else have similar experiences switching? And is Asacol HD still available or is it discontinued? I'm going to definitely try to switch back to Asacol HD tomorrow, and speak with my doctor to discuss it.

Asacol and Lialda are both me mesalamine medications. For me, all of these types of meds (I tried several others, as well) made my symptoms worse. I hope things settle down for you.

Now you've got me scared. I just picked up a prescription for Lialda because I decided to switch from Asacol HD. The reason I switched is because I have always suspected that Asacol was causing me to have more trips to the bathroom (it is the only ASA I have ever taken) and I saw several posts here from others who have made the switch and gotten better. Sure doesn't sound like that is the case with you. HD is still available and believe it will be for a long time.

So, I guess you're not on any rectal meds? If not, try them.

I just switched also, only a few days on but no changes yet.

I tried Colozal and Lialda and both did not work for me. Asacol worked great. When that was discontinued, they put me on that version with the caplets which put me in a flare. Switched to Asacol HD(which has NOT been discontinued) and it took me 4 weeks to get back in remission. I hate switching meds. If it is working I wouldn't risk switching. I also agree with Quincy. Get on rectal meds until you can sort out the oral ones. You don't want to risk a flare when you are just starting school. I totally can relate to that. Hang in there!

I do OK on Lialda as compared to the old Asacol. However, when I went on a very high dose, I definitely had more gas and discomfort but it got rid of the b & m. I also had bad brain fog on 4 tabs a day.

I didn't have any trouble with the switch from Asacol (400mg) to Lialda. I guess it's pretty individual how each of us reacts to these types of changes. I think AsacolHD is still available. I chose Lialda because it's 1200mg and it has a good copay assistance program.
