My UC started after my son was born. So far, it's the only flare I've had. My husband and I decided to have a second child because my UC was in such good control and had been for so long. We also were completely comfortable with the idea of me being on mesalamine during pregnancy. I was scared about flaring after birth, but I figured that since I'd be on medication, I'd be much less likely to flare (since I hadn't even been diagnosed when my son was born). Also, if I did start to flare, I knew what to do to treat it. The biggest reason I got so sick after my son was born is because I didn't know what it was and it took a while to get diagnosed -- so I was flaring and untreated for quite a while.
My daughter is now 6.5 months old and I'm still doing fine. I breastfed her until she was about 5 months, when it was clear my supply was suffering too much, and she therefore wasn't getting enough to eat, because I didn't respond well to the pump (I went back to work at 12 weeks). I was a bit worried about flaring after stopping breastfeeding, since that results in another hormonal shift, but I've had one period and am getting close to having my second, and so far, all is well.
Were you on meds when your daughter was born?
